DIANE WILSON, Project Manager for Extractive Industries for Box Hill Institute reports on the Advanced Diploma of Extractive Industries Management course.

The Advanced Diploma of EIM is specifically designed for supervisors and operational managers within the quarrying industry, normally with direct reporting accountabilities to senior management within the organisation or the owners of the business.

The Advanced Diploma will require participation on-site at Box Hill Institute’s new Lilydale Lakeside Campus over eight (8) stand-alone blocks of face-to-face facilitation and challenge-based learning. Each of the eight (8) blocks, comprises three (3) days of interactive learning spread over the 15 -18 months of the program. The blocks are scheduled on a bi-monthly (i.e. March then May) basis to maximise the relevance, retention and application of the content from each preceding block of learning.

The program has been developed to guide the enhancement of high level capabilities in the management of dynamic and ever-changing accountabilities and responsibilities within this industry. As the regulators, legislation and a changing community demand more of extractives industry, these accountabilities and responsibilities will be realised through the enrichment of communication, negotiation, advanced judgement, problem solving and decision-making skills, to name a few.

It is often heard, ‘that our most valuable resource are our people!’ The underpinning philosophy of the Advanced Diploma is to make this a commercially sustainable reality, adding demonstrable and quantifiable competitiveness to the business.

The implementation of this program will be structured around the targeting of participant site specific case studies and strategic scenarios that will be designed to address the specific objectives of each business represented. The core principles of this program will be focusing on performance management, organisational competitiveness and a sustainable future for the industry.
