An analogy of a Crushing & Screening Manual

The Crushing and Screening Reference Manuals project is coming along well with plenty of current activity, reports TEGAN ELDRIDGE, CMPA Document Development Officer.

THE manuals are coming along like any crushing and screening process. Some of them are travelling along the radial stacker about to cross the belt weigher, being assessed for the final time, and hoping to pass all specifications.

In order to continue the production line, more manuals are undergoing the initial drill and blast, about to be hauled across and fed into the primary.

There is product sifting through the grizzly bars and dropping into the jaw. What does not meet requirements at the successive screen gets diverted across to the hammermill, where it is ground and adjusted.

Despite the extension in production time, when the product combines for despatch, it can be seen that it has come together well.

It is undeniable to say that such successful crushing and screening, or manual compiling, cannot come without a fantastic team of servicemen. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have assisted with the service and maintenance and to give an update on the testing results of the material produced over the previous period.

CONDUCT CRUSHING OPERATIONS

The written component of the manual is complete; however the following photos are still required for the manual:

• Jaw face with uneven vertical wear
• Appropriate raw feed
• Uneven feed across material feeder
• Damage to impact plate
• Crusher feed with excessive fines
• Crusher feed with oversize material
• Bridged crusher/feed hopper overflowing due to a blockage
• Checking CSS using a ball of foil
• Measuring width of crushed foil using vernier caliper

CONDUCT SCREENING OPERATIONS

Michael Bunny from Locker Group is currently assisting in proof reading of tasks related to screen cloths. Adrian Town is also in the progress of developing tasks. The following photos are required for its completion:

• Head and tail drums
• GTU
• Sweeping tramp metal removal
• Deflector tramp metal removal

CONDUCT COMBINED CRUSHING & SCREENING

Thanks to John Bonnitcha for his detailed contribution on bearings and v-belts. Terry Hickey from Gordyn & Palmer is further developing a detailed section on plant automation whilst David Crosby from Quantec Solutions is assisting in obtaining information regards wear component selection, specifically white cast iron, heat treatable low alloy steel and mild steel. Michael Bunney of Locker Group is also in the progress of providing feedback on sections of this almost completed manual.

CONDUCT SAND PLANT OPERATIONS

A meeting with Gippsland Premium Quarries shall take place in the coming period to begin work on the Sand Manual for which Stuart Young has written the outline.

CONDUCT BLENDING OPERATIONS

Thanks to Galli Quarries and Walsh Ballarat Quarries for their final contribution to the manual. Once final checks have been made, this manual shall be ready for training.

SERVICE/MAINTAIN CONVEYORS, BINS & HOPPERS

Work has begun on Service and Maintain Conveyors, Bins and Hopper. Whilst the written content of the manual is close to complete, the following photos are still required:

• Discharge hopper or chute
• Re-entry hopper or side feed bin
• Bed of material present on feeder
• Inspecting the feeder bed or pans
• Inspecting hydraulic levels
• Inspecting lubrication hoses
• Inspecting drive components
• Damaged feeder pans
• Damaged feeder bed or wear plates of reciprocating feeders
• Bin level sensors
• Mounting structures of the bins
• Mounting assemblies of vibrating feeders
• Discharge points with wear or blockages that may cause spillage
• Drive coupling attachments
• Worn or loose grizzly bars
• Dust collectors or emission equipment
• Head shaft assembly including the segmental drive sprockets
• Inspection of the drive assembly

SERVICE/MAINTAIN SCREENS

Further development of Service and Maintain Crushers and Service and Maintain Screens is scheduled to begin in the coming period.
