Annual Wage Review for Modern Awards

Fair Work Australia (FWA) has handed down its 2013 Annual Wage Review Decision. GAVIN MOREIRA , Administration Officer, CMPA reports on the changes to wage rates and allowances.

IT’S the start of a new financial year; please ensure your employee wages and allowances have been updated. Don’t forget about increasing your compulsory superannuation guarantee rate to 9.25%.

Fair Work Australia’s 2013 annual wage review, which takes effect on the first full pay period on or aft er the 1st July 2013 has delivered an increase to the Modern Award weekly rate of 2.6%. Be aware that the new minimum wage rates payable under all Modern Awards have been updated. This includes the Quarrying Award 2010, Premixed Concrete Award 2010 and the Road Transport and Distribution Award 2010 just to name a few.

Please see the table (above) for new minimum wage rates payable under the Quarrying Award 2010 and a comparison with last year’s rates. Remember that these rate changes will also result in the following allowances needing to be adjusted as they depend on the standard rate per week:

  • Industry allowance
  • Leading hand/in charge of plant
  • First aid allowance

The following allowances have also increased:

  • Use of own vehicle – $0.76 per kilometer
  • Meal Allowance for Overtime – $12.91
  • Meal Expense – $12.91
