Membership Renewals

Our sincere thanks is extended to those Members who have already returned their membership renewal information—it is greatly appreciated.

All CMPA Members should have received their paperwork for renewal for the 2004-05 financial year. It would be greatly appreciated if the paperwork could be returned to the CMPA by September 30th to assist in planning.

It is important to note that any Associate Membership renewals not received by this date will not be included into the “Associate and General Information Reference Manual” for this year.

Gold Membership

Our gratitude is expressed to those Voting Members who, when returning their paperwork, have indicated a level of Gold Membership. This is greatly appreciated.

The introduction of Gold Membership was in response to the identified need of the CMPA to expand its services to members over the upcoming 12 months, and to move to a more practical accounting system.

Annual Report of the CMPA

Members are notified that a copy of the CMPA’s 2003-04 Annual Report will be sent to them in the next few weeks. It is important to note that the additional expense was required to ensure that the association continues to present itself in a professional manner.

WELL Funding 2004

It is important to note that the last three Work Safely courses for the year have been set, with details being available in this newsletter. Funding will be sought again for 2005, with Work Safely courses penciled in to run on the first and third Friday of each month beginning in March.

Unfortunately, the CMPA has been unable to release the next unit of competency – Conduct Local Risk Control. This will occur at the start of 2005 however a pilot course is planned for October. The delay has been due to the difficulties in writing training materials that will be easy to understand, easy to use, and that meet the requirements of quarry sites.

Amendments to the OHS (Asbestos) Regulations

As Voting Members would be aware, the Honorary CEO, Mr Ron Kerr, asked all members if they have worked on a potential asbestos containing site.

From these investigations, the CMPA has established that only a small number of sites are potential concerns. The CMPA has since informed WorkSafe that it will carry out further investigations on these sites before making a final decision.

Fatigue Report

The CMPA has received the Preliminary Assessment of Fatigue in the Victorian extractive industry.

From here, guidance material will be developed to provide advice and assistance to the extractive industry on how to manage fatigue in the workplace.

A full report will be presented in Issue 18.However in the meantime, see www.dpi.vic.gov.au
