CMPA Secretariat
All Members would have received their renewals for 2015/16. A fantastic response to date, for those that haven’t responded as yet it would be greatly appreciated if the application form can be completed and sent back via email, fax or mail. We do require the form to be completed for our records. Once the paperwork has been received a tax invoice will be issued. Thank you to the CMPA members who have already renewed for the 2015/16 financial year.
Associate Committee Meeting
On 26 August 2015 the CMPA Associate Committee held its latest meeting at the Kilmore Tennis Club in Kilmore, which was followed by a light lunch with the Management Committee. This was a great opportunity for both committees to meet and gave the new Associates Committee a good chance to network with quarry owners in the one location.
Management Committee members Andrew Burdett (Burdett Sands) and Ant Bateup (Mansfield Crushing) were also involved in the meeting which allowed Associates to gain a perspective from voting members on the issues they are facing in running their businesses. An update was provided by the Secretariat on the 2015 Annual Dinner and discussions were had for the location of the 2016 Annual Dinner. The chosen venue was once again The Pullman Hotel in Albert Park.
The growth and development of Sand & Stone was discussed and so too was the importance of associate member contributions in the form of editorial, advertorials and staff profiles to not only help keep the content interesting for all readers but to publically advertise your business. An integral part of being a member of an association is to be able to communicate to other members what you are all about and what you can offer to help grow each other’s businesses. Successful businesses can only benefit the industry in the long run.
With the new CMPA website up and running discussions centred around improving the key word search for preferred suppliers and providing regular updates to news, events and training pages. Google analytics and reporting are also a high priority for the Secretariat to identify the usage by members and the public to the website.
Other networking opportunities for 2015/16 are currently being investigated including topics for workshops and meetings. As well as other ways to be able to communicate more regularly with voting members was keenly discussed.
Wall Planner
As we approach the final quarter of 2015, the Secretariat is now preparing the 2016 CMPA Wall Planner. This will be the fifth year it has been put together.
An email was sent to all Members requesting advertising for the planner. A fantastic response with all 24 spots being taken up.
It was inserted in the October / November issue of Sand & Stone but unfolded copies can be ordered and printed as well.
2015/16 PSGIRM
The CMPA Preferred Suppliers & General Information Reference Manual 2015/16 has been delayed. It is currently being collated and will be delivered in late October 2015.
Emails to Associate Members with DRAFT details of your page are being sent out. It would be greatly appreciated if you can confirm your content as well as send through your photos to Jacinta Gall at
enquiries@cmpavic.asn.au. There is also a few advertising spots still available to be purchased for this annual publication.
Thank you to the members who are already advertising in the Preferred Suppliers & General Information Reference Manual, your support is greatly appreciated.
Management Committee Meeting
The meeting was held on 26 August 2015 at the Tennis Club in Kilmore. A light lunch was had with the Associates Committee who departed prior to the presentation by guest speaker Fiona Clarke Manager – Resource Strategy & Industry Investment, Minerals Development Victoria (MDV), DEDJTR. Fiona spoke on MDV which consist of 18 staff who have a project enabling role to assist proponents with their Work Plans/Work Plan variations; assisting strategically with resource availability and community engagement. However, MDV does not have any specific powers and adopts a facilitative approach.
The meeting proper commenced at 1:30 pm with attendees: Garry Cranny (Chairperson), Basil Natoli (Deputy Chairperson), John Pititto (Treasurer), Anthony Bateup, Andrew Burdett, Tim Bird, Rowena Cairns (Deputy Associates Chairperson) and John Mawson. Apologies noted were: Tej Panesar, David Eldridge and Matt Skidmore and observers: Jack Kraan, Wally Gianarelli, Carmillo Gianarelli.
The major issues raised included the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority Report “Risk assessment of floodplain mining pits in the mid-Goulburn Valley” that led to the issuing of six Section 110 Notices by Earth Resources Regulation Branch, DEDJTR. This is of immense concern to CMPA. Also of concern is the unprecedented listing of a site on the Aboriginal Heritage Register that includes two Work Authorities one of which has been in operation for nearly 80 years. The Committee resolved to write to the Government on both issues.
