Removal of Asbestos from Recycled Construction and Demolition Materials
Tony D’Abbs addressed attendees on the issue of complying with the OHS Regulations 2007 (Asbestos).
Due to the nature of the hazard and prevalence of asbestos-containing material in workplaces, regulation is crucial. Victoria has some of the strongest asbestos regulations in Australia.
The streamlining of Victoria’s OHS regulations has provided an opportunity to remove overlapping laws and reduce the administrative burden on business while generally maintaining the current provisions.
Key issues include:
- Fragmented and overlapping laws
- Licenses and unlicensed asbestos removal
- Distinction between demolition and refurbishment
- Use of recycled construction and demolition material
- Notification of asbestos removal work
