Membership Renewals

All Members have received their renewals for 2020/21. We have had a fantastic response to date, for those who have not responded as, yet it would be greatly appreciated if the application form can be completed and sent back via email, fax, or post. We do require the form to be completed for our records. Once the paperwork has been received a tax invoice will be issued.

Thank you to the CMPA members who have already renewed for the 2020/21 financial year.

If you are having financial difficulties in this time of COVID-19 please let us know.

Wall Planner

As we approach the final quarter of 2020, the Secretariat is now preparing the 2021 CMPA Wall Planner. This will be the tenth year it has been printed and distributed.

An email was sent to all Members requesting advertising for the planner. We have had a fantastic response, all spots are sold.

Please email the Secretariat at enquiries@cmpavic.asn.au with your ads ASAP. It will be folded and inserted in the October / November issue of Sand & Stone, but unfolded copies can be ordered and printed as well.

Management Committee Meeting

The Management Committee meeting was held Wednesday 19 August 2020 via Microsoft teams. Attendees were Garry Cranny (Chairperson), Basil Natoli (Deputy Chairperson), Jason Rudge (Associate Chairperson), John Pititto (Treasurer), Drew Phillips, Jason Comben, Tim Bird, Andrew Burdett, John Mawson. Ant Bateup was an apology.

Prior to the meeting commencing Michael Hocking (C.J. Ham and Murray), John Krbaleski (DJPR) and Jane Burton (DJPR) joined the pre-meeting to discuss the VAGO Rehabilitating Mines Report and other issues.

The Committee meeting commenced and the financial audit was accepted for presentation to Members at the Annual General Meeting on 10 September 2020 (Microsoft teams). The budget for the financial year (2020/21) was reviewed and included no increase in membership fees. A request was made to the Committee to send information through regarding any proposed changes to the budget in October.

Due to COVID-19 the 2020 Annual dinner was cancelled. The Essendon Fields venue has been booked for 2021 but no deposit has been made yet. There was discussion about whether to pay the deposit later this year or wait to see what happens with the current COVID-19 situation. It was felt it would be better to wait and to just have a hold on the date.

G. Cranny and E. Gibson attended a meeting with the Victorian Government (DHHS, DPC, DELWP, WorkSafe and DJPR). The meeting concerned ensuring that the extractive industry is taking COVID-19 seriously and implementing changes within the workplace to ensure spread of COVID-19 is minimised.

The issues with delivering products to jobs in PBS vehicles due to only being allowed on permitted roads were discussed. The greater mass that these vehicles can take lead to benefits such as reduced carbon footprint, vehicle emissions, reduced truck movements and reduced costs.

Associates Committee Meeting

On 19th August 2020, the CMPA Associate Committee held its third meeting for the year via MS Teams. Associate Chairperson Jason Rudge (William Adams) opened the meeting.

The 2020-21 Associate Committee comprises (below):

The only change to the committee, Mark Quinn will replace Albert Toal who is retiring. We wish Albert all the best.

An update was provided on the upcoming Annual Dinner to be held on Saturday 11th September 2021 at The Australian Events Centre, Essendon Fields. The date has been secured with a deposit to be potentially paid by the end of the year.

Future issues of Sand & Stone were discussed and so too was the importance of Associate member contributions in the form of editorials, advertorials and staff profiles. Associates to provide articles that look at new technologies, innovations or products or services that reduce costs and improve efficiencies for the quarries. This will not only help keep the content interesting for all readers but publicly advertise your business. An integral part of being a member of an association is to be able to communicate to other members what you are all about and what you can offer to help grow each other’s businesses. Successful businesses can only benefit the industry in the long run.

The CMPA online presence continues to grow both on the website and our social media site LinkedIn, both are pivotal tools to increase brand awareness for Associate businesses especially in these times of COVID-19 were a lot more people are working from home. The website NEWS section is being updated weekly by the Secretariat and includes past meetings, safety updates and Associate or Voting Member information.

Future marketing of the CMPA include the development of a video to follow on from last year’s poster and brochure with the focus again on “Quarries Build Communities”.
