WorkChoices Compliance Check Targets Regional Centres

The Federal Government agency responsible for ensuring compliance with workplace relations obligations—the Office of Workplace Services (OWS) – has begun a targeted regional education and compliance program across Australia.

In Victoria, the centres of:

  • Traralgon
  • Moe
  • Warrnambool
  • Colac
  • Bendigo
  • Castlemaine
  • Bacchus Marsh and
  • Ballarat

have been chose for the campaign, which will concentrate on employer time and wage record keeping and payslip obligations.

As part of the campaign, an introductory letter is being sent to selected employers to be followed by visits to a range of selected businesses by OWS workplace inspectors.

If you want further information about the campaign, or about your obligations concerning record keeping and the issue of pay slips, please contact VECCI’s Telephone Information Centre on 8662 5222 (1800 672 731 freecall from outside Melbourne).

Please note that under WorkChoices, employers cannot be prosecuted for being in breach of these obligations until after 26 March 2007. This means that employers have until then to put in place record keeping and pay slip systems that comply with the legislation and associated regulation
