Cat Institute wins training award
The Caterpillar Institute (Vic-Tas) Pty Ltd has been named Victorian Small Training Provider of the Year.
THE Caterpillar Institute (Vic-Tas) Pty Ltd, a joint venture between Victorian
and Tasmanian Cat dealer, William Adams Pty Ltd, and Caterpillar of Australia, has been named Victorian Small Training Provider of the Year.
The Victorian Training Awards celebrate excellence across the Victorian vocational education and training system.
Now in their 54th year and presented by Victoria’s Minister for Skills and Workforce Participation, Jacinta Allan, the awards drew together more than 1000 people from industry and the VET sector to celebrate outstanding achievement.
The Caterpillar Institute was established in 2003 as a registered training organisation delivering technical and non-technical courses including apprenticeship training, service technician and machine operator training and OH&S and management.
Caterpillar Institute General Manager, Raylene West said the Institute was thrilled to win the award.
“We have only been operating for six years and so are very excited to be recognised by industry in winning this award. When we began we were training just 26 heavy vehicle apprentices, now we are delivering training to more than 170 apprentices in Victoria and a further 90 in Queensland as well as offering a range of other courses.
“We are also providing training to apprentices and trainees in Civil Construction, Extractive Industries, Mining, Warehousing and Management,” Ms West said.
“The Caterpillar Institute is an innovative way of addressing the shortage of skilled technicians and operators in industry sectors such as mining, agriculture, construction, road transport, forestry and marine, and helping employers in these industries operate efficiently, effectively and safely,” Ms West said.
The Institute’s industry specific programs utilise the latest technologies with direct access to machines, components and simulators to reinforce skills and learning.
“The recognition this award brings will be shared by all our staff and we look forward to flying the flag for Victoria during the Australian Training Awards in late November,” Ms West said.
