With its recent acquisition by HE Parts International, Crushing and Mining Equipment has expanded its Australian operations by opening a branch in Melbourne, reports ROLAND HALL.

CME was established in 1988 and has since grown to become one of the largest suppliers of crushing equipment and consumables to the quarrying and mining industries in Australia. With branches in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney and now Melbourne, CME employees around 90 people with a turnover in excess of $65 million.

In 2008 CME was acquired by HE Parts International, the world’s largest privately owned supplier of parts and re-manufactured components to the global quarrying, heavy construction and mining industries.

Following the acquisition by HE, a decision was taken to expand CME’s operations. “Establishing a branch in Melbourne was the obvious first choice” said CME’s Victorian Branch Manager, Roland Hall. “We already had a good customer base in Victoria and it was time to up the ante in terms of our ability to provide a better service to those existing and potential customers”.

CME’s core business is the supply of high quality manganese crusher liners and OEM and aftermarket crusher spare parts. CME’s is also one of two Terex Cedarapids Distributors in Australia and the sole distributor of aggregate duty Raptor cone crushers manufactured in Peoria USA by Excel Foundry and Machine, a division of FL Smidth.

CME also designs and manufactures a range of jaw crushers and the industry benchmark Auspactor Rock on Rock Vertical Shaft Impactor which is now being exported to the Middle East and Africa.

The growth and success of CME has been underpinned by the continued development over the years of its core business activities especially the supply of manganese crusher liners. CME is the sole Australian distributor for Yoonsteel Malaysia Sdn Bhd, widely regarded as a world leader in the manufacture of manganese crusher liners.

Yoonsteel’s foundry capacity is in excess of 30,000 tonnes per annum, this being greater than the entire consumption of crusher liners in Australia. Complementing Yoonsteel’s superb product quality is CME’s commitment to optimizing customer specific liner profiles to maximize wear life. This service, which incorporates simulation soft ware developed in-house by CME, is provided free of charge, anywhere in Australia.

“Saving our clients money by reducing liner wear costs is the cornerstone of CME’s customer relationship philosophy” says Roland Hall.

CASE STUDY – MAWSONS LAKE BOGA

This quarry operates a Terex Jaques 42×30 ST ‘World’ Jaw Crusher and a Terex Cedarapids MVP280 Cone Crusher crushing granite. The site was turning the fixed jaw every three weeks and due to the high wear rates, Quarry Manager Peter McMullam trialled CME liners in his jaw crusher recently. The CME fixed jaw liner lasted five weeks prior to being turned, demonstrating an improved wear life of 60% on the existing liners
