CMPA – New Administration Officer
APRIL EVERITT, Jack of all trades.
I have been working at the CMPA now for just over four months. Before starting at CMPA, I was running my own T/A business – Mobile Dustless Blasting. It was doing extremely well until COVID hit, then like a lot of small businesses, it was an uphill battle to keep it going.
Prior to that I was Co-Director of a steel fabrication business for 13 years, that primarily dealt with the construction industry though we did also do some work in the quarry and domestic industries.
During the 13 years in the steel business, I liaised with clients (and did on occasion assist in the installation of steel on site), managed our suppliers, did all the business accounts, administration and advertising/promotion, which included website creation, Facebook and Instagram advertising and branding. I also raised my two children during this period which made for quite a busy time in my life.
Prior to running my own businesses, I worked for MC Labour – a Labour hire company, again in the construction industry, for 6 years. Starting in accounts then becoming a PA to the Director and General Manager. If you really want to go back further (I am showing my age now).
I have worked for the Modern Group and a roofing company and just for something different worked in a bar while living in Ireland for 12 months.
So, you could say my work history has definitely been in predominantly construction/building industries. It has given me a lot of knowledge on how sites work in regards to safety and procedures, production and installation time frames and how to communicate and work with a number of different
people and departments. But what I have found it has taught me most is how to think outside of the box, especially when it comes to unexpected problems or last-minute requests & issue resolution, and how to “think quick” on my feet.
When I came across the job opening at CMPA, I felt my work history would be a great fit for myself and for the CMPA.
I definitely have hit the ground running, but Gavin, Elizabeth and Ron have been a great support and wealth of information to help me understand the full scope of the CMPA and its members.
It was fantastic to meet everyone at the Annual Dinner and put faces to the voices I had spoken to over the phone. I hope to meet more of you over the coming months.
