DTP Code of Practice RC 500.00
The CMPA received a draft of the revised Department of Transport and Planning’s (DTP) Code of Practice RC 500.00 Investigation of Material Sources for the Production of Crushed Rock and Aggregates (formerly titled Source Rock Investigations) for review by 15 November 2023.

The main change in this draft is the proposed introduction of a 2-year expiry period for quarry- and recycler accreditation where the source hasn’t been inspected in that time – refer Section 8 of the attached draft document. This is of course a substantial change but DTP believe that it is necessary in order to remove ambiguity regarding how long a source remains accredited where it has not been inspected in a long time.

Other proposed changes include:

  • Re-writing to better account for inclusion of recyclers and non-quarry rock:
  • Frequencies for inspections and testing for Los Angeles Value changed to indicative rather than prescriptive, and dependency of testing frequency on assigned LAV and PSV values removed to reflect current practice:
  • Re-formatting to include tables in text body rather than appendices where possible.

Generally, CMPA Secretariat is generally supportive of the document being inclusive in relation to recycled material sources. Comments were provided on the proposed changes to DTP that will be published in a future issue of Sand & Stone on the following: Reporting, Accreditation, and definition of Recycled Materials.

New CMPA website is coming soon

Over the past 12 months the CMPA have been working on updating their Company branding. This includes; the CMPA logo, Sand and Stone Magazine, Website and Social Media Platforms.

You may have seen in the previous Sand and Stone magazine (Aug/Sep issue), the new CMPA logo, as well as some layout and colour changes within the Sand and Stone magazine. This is to freshen up the magazine, while also keeping consistent with CMPA’s new branding format.

The great news is that the CMPA website is being revamped and updated, and will soon be available for members to use.

The website had not been updated since 2014 and was well and truly due for a facelift.

The main priorities for the website upgrade are;

  • To make it more accessible for users (members & non-members).
  • Simpler to navigate the site and to access information.
  • Members Portal – making updating Company information, renewal of Membership and publication/events purchases effortless.

We are thrilled with the result of the new site and will update our members with the launch date once it has been confirmed.
