Management Committee Meeting
Jason Comben (Chair), John Pititto (Treasurer), Craig Banthorpe, Tim Bird, Garry Cranny, Mark Thompson (Associate Chairperson), Andrew Burdett and Cameron Black attended the Management Committee Meeting on Thursday 23rd May 2024 at Best Western Airport Motel, Attwood. A summary of CMPA Monthly Accounts to 30.04.24 was given by the Treasurer where net profit was shown to be up $134K against budget. The draft framework of the Mobile Equipment Operator Verification of Competency has been completed and is now out for review by WorkSafe. The CMPA website went live on 20 May 2024 which will be launched later this year.
Discussion was held on the need to begin preparation for the consultation to be undertaken for the new Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2027. An update was given on CMPA Guidelines:
• Guarding Guideline – An online guarding training unit for employees similar to the RSCD training will be developed.
• Guidelines – The Water Management and Geotechnical Risk guidelines are on permanent hold due to the excessively high standards that are laid out and the potential conflict where WorkSafe and ERR use CMPA publications for prosecution of CMPA members.
A review of the Secretariat is being conducted with the intent being to enable more site visits of Members and potential Members.

Annual Wage Review for Modern Awards
Fair Work Commission (FWC) has handed down its 2024 Annual Wage Review Decision. The 2024/25 financial year is well under way; please ensure your employee wages and allowances have been updated. Fair Work Commission’s 2024 annual wage review, which took effect from the first full pay period on or after the 1 July 2024, has delivered an increase to the Modern Award weekly rate of 3.75%.
Most Modern Award allowances have also increased either as part of the minimum wage increase or based upon the relevant consumer price index (CPI) sub-category. The wage rates as published reflect the increase to the Modern Award wage rates.
Please see the table for new minimum wage rates payable under the Cement, Lime and Quarrying Award 2020 and a comparison with last year’s rates.
A full-time employee must be paid a minimum weekly rate for their classification as set out in the table below:
The industry disability allowance is included in the above rates.
The following allowances need to be adjusted to take into account the new weekly rates.
• Industry disability allowance $32.57 per week
• Leading hand/in charge of:
First aid – $19.04 of standard rate per week
• Use of own vehicle – $0.98 per kilometer
• Meal expense – $17.81
