The CMPA is looking to improve on this tool for the years ahead. CMPA ASSOCIATE COMMITTEE MEETING

On 12 December, 2013 the CMPA Associate Committee held its last meeting for the year at the new Liebherr Australia offices in Dandenong. Discussions were had around next year’s AGM and Annual Dinner to be held in Melbourne.

Items brought to the table included: sponsorship, entertainment and activities to make the event an enjoyable weekend.

The growth and development of Sand & Stone was discussed and so too was the importance of associate member contributions in the form of editorial, advertorials and staff profiles to not only help keep the content interesting for all readers but to publically advertise your business.

An integral part of being a member of an association is to be able to communicate to other members what you are all about and what you can offer to help grow each other’s businesses. Successful businesses can only benefit the industry in the long run.

The CMPA Website needs to keep being developed and utilised by members not only as a resource but as a key marketing tool for the association and the industry. It’s important that key links are created between the CMPA and all Preferred Suppliers. The latest update now gives the Associates the opportunities to include images, videos and maps on their individual pages.

Other networking opportunities for 2014 are currently being investigated including regional trade shows in conjunction with workshops and meetings. As well as other ways to be able to communicate more regularly with voting members was keenly discussed.

The associates were quite impressed with the CMPA wall planners and preferred suppliers stickers and look to develop them both further next year.

The CMPA has currently upgraded their two office computers and monitors. The second-hand machines are now available to be purchased. The monitors are: ACER 19” inch LCD Widescreen. The computers are: a Pentium Dual Core 2.2GHz, 2GBRAM, 80GB Hard Drive, DVD-RW with Windows XP Professional Software.

MEETING WITH KYLIE WHITE Executive Director, Earth Resources Regulations Branch, DSDBI

The Management Committee and Chris Ryan (Chris Ryan Earthmoving) met with Kylie White in late November 2013 in Kilmore to raise issues with Kylie White that were impacting on the extractive industry (an invitation went out to all Voting Members to attend this meeting).

For example, catchment management authorities and the Environment Protection Authority not agreeing on conditions in work plans and poorly resourced local planning authorities.

Kylie White responded that she could work more closely with local councils but that certain areas were outside her jurisdiction such as Melbourne Water, Cultural Heritage Management Plans and Native Vegetation among others.

The opportunity to speak with Kylie White was most welcome and hopefully regular meetings will continue into the future.

CMPA MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING

Following on from the meeting with Kylie White the Management Committee meeting was held on 27 November, 2013 at the library in Kilmore.

In attendance were John Mawson (Chairperson), Basil Natoli, John Pititto (Treasurer), David Carrucan, Tej Panesar, Ant Bateup and David Eldridge of the Management Committee; Ron Kerr, Elizabeth Gibson, Gavin Moreira and Melanie Sumpter from the Secretariat.

Apologies were from Tim Bird and Garry Cranny (Deputy Chairperson) (Management Committee); and Adrian Town and Sarah Andrew (Secretariat)

John Pititto summarised the financial report. The net profit is ahead of
expectations. The total income is in direct correlation of profit. The advertising for Sand & Stone needs to be looked as it is down from budget.

The total expenses are also less than budget. The employment expenses were down compared to budget but did allow for the appointment for another employee. The financial status of CMPA is in a strong position. There are available funds to work with for the members.

It was proposed that the Associates & General Information Reference Manual be titled to reflect “Preferred Suppliers” so as to increase awareness at worksites to enhance the business interaction and strengthen the bond between Voting Member Sites and Associates. This was reflected in the Members’ survey.

There have been four new members since the last meeting, three Voting and one Associate. There has been a potential Voting and Association Member list compiled. Adrian Town is reviewing the Voting list and Gavin Moreira viewing the Association list. There will be a membership information pack sent out to the potential members and then they will be contacted by phone shortly after.

There was a proposal put forward and accepted for the appointment of Andrew Burdett (Burdett Sands) to the Management Committee until elections are held at the next AGM (2014).

A Strategic Plan for the CMPA has been drafted and is currently being considered by the Management Committee with a view to be put to the AGM in 2014. The next Management Committee meeting will be held on the 19 February, 2014.
