DE Quarry Solutions – born from mobile equipment
HAN ALAM, Victorian Sales Manager for Finlay Screening & Crushing Systems Pty Ltd reports on the growth of the business and the partnership with DE Quarry Solutions.
DE Quarry Solutions started as road making contractors in 1946 in South West Victoria. The demand from local shires to crush and screen oversize materials within existing small quarries led David Eldridge to mobile crushing. After investing in a Jaques Jetflow screen and telsmith Cone
crusher on wheels in 1979, the mobile division was born.
In 1982 DE Quarry Solutions built its first trailer mounted primary crushing trailer with a 36” x 24” Goodwin Barsby Jaw Crusher, adding to its growing fleet of machines. As the quarrying era began, David Eldridge took over the business from his father Lindsay in 1985. With a hole in the supply
market, David seized the opportunity to open the Skipton Quarry. In 1992 the Skipton Quarry opened, supplying scoria to local shires, contractors and civil works that David was involved in. In 2006 David Eldridge took ownership of the land. By this time he had built a trailer mounted Allis
Chalmers 16’ x 6’screening plant, Kumbee No. 2 Hammer Mill, Jaques No. 35 Cone Crusher, Cedarapids MvP 380 and trestle mounted 2 and 3 deck Jaques torrent screens.
All of this equipment was utilised through mobile quarrying projects across Victoria. the first mobile unit on tracks was a Komatsu Br 500 purchased in 1998. Initially this was purchased to work in conjunction with the trailer mounted plant. Due to Wind Farm projects in Western Victoria in 2011- 2012, David and his team moved quickly towards track mounted equipment. With the demand for a track mounted cone crusher and pre-screen David approached Finlay in Melbourne. Finlay proposed a C1550, a 1300 cone crusher with pre-screen and side conveyor which they had in stock. Finlay mobilised its service team and within days the machine was producing in Macarthur.
DE Quarry Solutions lost no time in purchasing the machine. Since then a long term relationship was formed with Finlay, leading to the purchase of a train of terex Finlay mobile plant. David said “The technical advice from Finlay’s Ronnie Bustard and Wayne Jones along with the assistance, from Finlay’s Victorian Sales Manager Han Alam and field service from their Victorian based team were instrumental in procurement of these machines.”
The after sales service and parts from Finlay continue. David has since acquired terex Finlay J-1175 Jaw Crusher with live independent pre-screen, C1550 cone crusher, 984 – 3 deck horizontal 20×6 screen and 595 Scalper.
Due to confirmation of a large basalt deposit at the Skipton quarry in 2007, a new primary crushing station was required to handle the change in material from scoria to basalt. Designed and built in house, DE Quarry Solutions rolled out its new primary crushing station in 2013. the plant consists of a terex Jaques hydraulically adjusted 60×48 Jaw Crusher, vibrating Grizzly and Apron Feeder. The plant is capable of handling material up to 1200mm in diameter which is crucial in Western flow basalt. this provides great processing efficiencies which aids in the supply for projects such as the Western Highway upgrade. Both David and Ryan Eldridge worked together with their employees to deliver a plant that not only met the output requirements, but also exceeded the safety and maintenance requirements of their employees.
Since taking the reins in 1985, many key employees have been brought on board to assist in the growth of DE Quarry Solutions. Brendon Carr shifts between the Skipton Quarry site supervisor and mobile plant operations. Brendon’s eye for detail ensures all machines are kept in excellent condition and the product produced is second to none. Heading the delivery and quality control of products produced at the Skipton Quarry is Supply Manager Grant Wooller.
Grant’s knowledge of materials, applications and supply capabilities allows Grant to efficiently deliver the best suited product to the job.
Based in the company’s corporate offices and workshops in Ballarat is the business manager Jonathan Tischler. Jonathan is continually perusing new endeavours to generate a broader market for DE Quarry. At any given opportunity Jonathan loves to lend a hand to the guys on the ground and keep in touch with the operations.
As the Managing Director of DE Quarry Solutions, David Eldridge is a member of the CMPA Management Committee and has been since the conception of the CMPA. David finds the CMPA to be valuable in giving assistance and compliance in the extractive and recycling industry.
