JASON FREEMAN, Managing Director of Freeman Contracting Services, recounts the development of the family owned business he and his wife Bronwyn run from small beginnings to present.

Based at Little River in Melbourne’s west Freeman Contracting Services started business in 1998 supplying fitters and boiler makers to the quarrying industry for all quarry maintenance and fabrication. An opportunity presented itself and we sourced some competent trade’s people who had good references and safety checks and that’s how it started. We have 8 staff working full time and employ additional staff as needed to facilitate project work or campaign crushing.

Safety and competency training has always been a priority and we encourage and assist our employees to be the best they can as at the end of the day we and the employees are a reflection of the business. In other words the business is only as good as the people who run the business and those who work in the business. Combine this with our experience and knowledge of today’s challenging and demanding market then the service we offer is second to none. We pride ourselves not only in the range, quality and late model machinery, but also in the experience, knowledge and skills of our operators.

In 2010 Freeman Contracting Services branched out into mobile crushing and screening.

“I saw this as a natural extension to Freeman Contracting Services in growing and moving the business forward. It was a natural progression for our business as we are committed to the industry for the long haul so to speak.”

Our fleet of mobile equipment including Striker Mobile Jaw Crusher – Jaques 42 x 30 , SCS Mobile Cone Crusher – Jaques S1200, SCS Triple Deck Mobile Screen 20 x 5, 980H Cat Loader and a 3t Kebelco Excavator.

We can also bring in additional mobile equipment to suit project requirements. This equipment is meticulously maintained on site by our service technicians to ensure quality, efficient production and delivery of product to our consumers. The plant have been carefully selected to ensure maximum production outputs are achieved with the versatility to meet the diverse needs of our business and that of our customers. The plant will process all manner of rock types and can be deployed into recycling operations.

Our first mobile crushing project was to supply 45 kt of leachate aggregate for the City of Wyndham and a crusher run product to the regional rail Link at Werribee which we delivered on time and to specification.

Other crushing and screening projects include:- Mobile crushing and screening in a future quarry for pit development and product evaluation.

Mobile crushing and screening basalt & recycled concrete to produce aggregates and class crush rock through Melbourne and Geelong.

Mobile crushing and screening at Stawell producing VicRoads spec. class 2 and class 3 crushed rock as well as concrete aggregates and leachate aggregate. This is our second campaign at Stawell working with our customer. With a hard earned reputation for dependability and safe operational practices, we pride ourselves on the number of crushing and screening contracts won though word of mouth and positive client referrals.

“Our goal is to be a leading crushing company in Australia and to always put the needs of clients first by delivering a quality product at a competitive cost.”

Freeman Contracting Services has been a member of the CMPA since 2013 and have found it to be a valuable resource for keeping up to date with constant changes to regulations. It’s been great to meet like-minded people in the industry and to gain a better understanding of the industry we work in.

Looking forward, we aim to steadily grow the business to incorporate more machines and staff and to branch out to other states. My aim is to prepare the younger generation of family members for leadership and general business skills demanded of the family by the business.
