FROM THE CMPA SECRETARIAT (Issue 43)

Ten Years of the CMPA

A reflection of what we have achieved, by RON KERR, the CMPA’s Honorary CEO.

TEN years have now passed since the concept of the CMPA was first borne – a collective of concerned owners of family businesses in Victoria who felt they were not effectively represented to government. Who were struggling to have their voice heard amidst change occurring around them.

Since that time, members have relayed to me many reasons for their support of the association – not least that it gives them reason to remain in the sector, or enhances their knowledge and confidence in business to move forward.

Over this time, the CMPA’s membership has continued to grow and many of those businesses have proactively participated in the associations’ business and further develop their interactions with other members and regulators.

It is without doubt members hold great pride in the CMPA – it is reflected in their offices foyers, lunchrooms and their advertising and marketing.

Resource materials that have been developed during this time – from the transport document enclosed for construction material processing sites through to the training reference manuals – have captured the knowledge of many operators and suppliers. Materials that are both cost effective and informative.

The development of a proactive approach to participation in regulatory reviews and other matters having a direct impact upon member’s worksites has seen numerous submissions presented and partnerships formed.

With this in mind, I would like to take this opportunity to thank past and present Management Committee members, and also Sarah and Briony for their commitment and outstanding contribution to the association in meeting the needs and expectations of the all members.

An early CMPA Annual Dinner

Like me, you will have the chance to articulate your appreciation of the association’s efforts at the upcoming Annual Dinner to be held this year in Ballarat. Make a point of continuing to participate.

CHANGING FACE OF THE CMPA

There will be some new faces within the CMPA’s Secretariat over the coming months with both Sarah and Briony leaving.

Sarah Andrew will be taking a break from the CMPA as she and husband Michael welcome their first child in late June. Sarah has been part of the CMPA’s Secretariat in a number of different roles since the Association’s inception. ‘I’ve been very lucky to be able to grow with the CMPA over the last ten years, and although I am looking forward to this next stage in life, will miss my role as Project Manager,’ said Sarah.

Briony Rowley has been the CMPA’s Administration Officer for five years. Many readers would have spoken to her with membership or account enquiries, the Annual Dinner or for training requirements.

Briony is leaving the CMPA to travel overseas and will again be travelling the United States, missing out on a second Victorian winter.

Although both are finishing before the Annual Dinner, Sarah is planning to attend the dinner this year as a participant rather than an organiser. Sarah’s position is presently being advertised and applications are being sought. The position description can be downloaded from the CMPA website and applications made directly to the office.
