First CMPA General Meeting in 12—18 Months!

It’s been a while so the CMPA is preparing for its first General Meeting for the New Year.

The first General Meeting in 12—18 Months!

Date: Thursday 30 March
Time: 5pm—9pm
Location: Metaltec—Cheltenham
Dinner: BBQ dinner

Being the first General Meeting in quite a while means that there are many important CMPA and industry issues that must be discussed and must not be missed!

MAJOR PRESENTATIONS

EPA—Air Quality
Presented by Lyn Denison
Ms Dennison will be discussing the requirements of the new Protocol for Environmental Management (Mining and Extractive Industries) including:

  • How it will affect your sites, both existing and new
  • Where to from here

DPI—EIDA Review
Members would be aware that the review of the EIDA is continuing and it is anticipated that at this meeting the DPI will be able to update on what changes it proposes and how this will influence the industry as a whole and sites individually.

As with previous CMPA General Meetings the Department of Primary Industries will be presenting a review of the Department’s activities over the last 12 months along with an update on future activities and events.

This will of course include an update directly from the DPI on the change in regulator from the Department of Primary Industries to the Victorian WorkCover Authority.

Removal of Asbestos from Recycled Construction and Demolition Material

How can you show there is no asbestos containing material left in a stockpile of C&D material that you have just crushed? Was the stockpile inspected and asbestos containing material removed before being crushed?

Under the Asbestos regulations, processors have a responsibility to ensure that this inspection did occur and that there are records that can prove this.

WorkSafe have issued new guidance material to assist all parties in the recycling industry, waste managers, stockpilers, processors and vendors meet their legal obligations—Recycling Construction and Demolition Material, Guidance on complying with the (now revised) OHS (Asbestos) Regulations 2003. In practical terms, this guidance material describes the operational practices, the minimum standards in terms of procedures, training, record keeping etc. that a WorkSafe inspector would expect to observe on site.

Tony D’Abbs will clarify your legal obligations and explain in detail the inspection procedures and other requirements.
