Who do you work for?
I am the director of Hamiltons Blasting Service
How many years have you been involved in the Industry?
This is my 13th year working in the industry, and the second year at the helm of Hamiltons Blasting Services.
What are your hopes for the industry?
The industry today appears to be gaining momentum – it is terrific to see! The Victorian Government has expressed a renewed interest in developing infrastructure projects and construction works throughout the state, and are investing money into our industry. As a result, there are numerous major projects currently underway or slated for the near future. It’s now just a matter of sustaining this upward trajectory, and finding ways to keep this momentum going.
What is your role at the company?
My role is as Director and Blasting Specialist at Hamiltons Blasting Services. I’m responsible for managing the project – from project initiation and planning, to execution on blast day. I also coordinate with my team and key stakeholders to ensure everything in the lead up and closeout is completed to the satisfaction of all involved.
What is on the radar for 2017/18
Going forward, we will be concentrating on solidifying relationships with our existing clients, improving processes and enhancing what we can offer to our clients. We have some fantastic, loyal clients who we are most grateful for. We are also concentrating on expanding our speciality capabilities, offering our clients the additional benefits of Drone Technology. We can now offer clients a rare birds-eye-view of the blast itself, all captured via digital footage from our Drone. Harnessing new technology in this way will mean clients can not only view the results of the project from a unique angle, but we can then utilise this vision to improve planning going forward.
What do you love about your work?
I love it all! I love the technical design aspect of the job, and seeing the result when all the planning and challenging work comes together. Watching a blast is such a unique experience. After almost 13 years, I still enjoy getting up every day and sinking my teeth into each new project. No two days are ever the same. It’s a very satisfying career.
