TRACEY WALL, Marketing Assistant of Kinder Australia provides a report on 35 years of Kinder Australia. (Associate Member of the CMPA since 2002).

On the 2nd of November 1985, when Stevie Wonder’s Part-Time Lover was top of the radio charts, N.C. Kinder & Co. Pty Ltd was beginning its journey in a two-bedroom house in Prahran, Victoria by founders Neil and Christine Kinder.

Originally, Kinder specialised in conveyor and elevator products, screens, drilling consumables, rubber products, hose, pipe and fittings and abrasion corrosion control products. With no computers and high-tech databases to record inventory, and no mobile phones to quickly get in touch, Neil had to carry a pager to be reached by Christine while on his Australia-wide business trips. As soon as they were available, Neil was quick to obtain an early phone in his car, which he deemed imperative for the businesses’ evolution. Early business was based on mobile coverage at the time, during the rapid progression of 1990s e-technology. Not afraid to get his boots muddy, Neil always stood by his values that “When you’re not the biggest in business, you’ve got to know your business better.”

The addition of Charles Pratt to Kinder Australia in 2004 as a fresh-faced engineer, provided an enormous benefit to the company in propelling it forwards and gaining new ideas. Energetic and driven, Charles encourages the importance of inclusiveness and upskilling.

35 years later, Neil and Christine, together with Charles, continue to keep their finger on the pulse of Kinder Australia Pty Ltd. Together with a skilled and trained team, they have moved premises several times to accommodate growth of product range and storage, as well as staff increase and needs. They have travelled the world to display at and attend international trade shows and events, as well as collaborate and build relationships with global suppliers and partners.

Kinder Australia has extended its product range from exclusively the quarrying industry to becoming a leading independent supplier and manufacturer of innovative and practical solutions to improve and maintain the running efficiency of conveyor and bulk materials handling equipment.

These are used to convey a variety of products that include ore, quarried products, grain, sugar, salt and coal. Kinder has also extended its expertise into becoming a reputable engineering company, with Mechanical, Aeronautical, Electrical and Chemical specialists who possess proficiency with conveyor engineering and design. Kinder’s extraordinary Engineering and Field Team are specialists when handling complex problems with excellent precision and execution.

For the past 35 years, Kinder have always held their family business values at the core. Neil and Christine continue to oversee the business and encourage growth and innovation. Their son Sean is a field mechanical engineer who enjoys building relationships with key customers, and their daughter Tracey plays a key role in the marketing team.

There’s no sign of slowing for Kinder Australia – even during a global pandemic! Although 2020 has been challenging to say the least, it’s onwards and upwards from here.
