New Administration Support Officer
Meet Jacinta Gall
JACINTA GALL, a brief histroy and introduction to CMPA’s new ASO.
I started my career at the age of 17, a small town girl, fresh out of school and straight into the Army where I was a Soldier/Storeman with 21 Ariel Delivery Equipment Platoon in Leichardt and working with the Parachute Riggers.
Along with obstacle courses, running, marching and drill a large component of my job was Administration. I was working at a time when we still used black and white computers which ran on MS DOS and there were probably only three computers in the entire building. We also used such antiquities as Microfiche to archive our files and we all smoked in the office. As a Storeman (person in these politically correct times) with the Riggers I got to travel to drop zones all over Australia and got to fly in really cool Military Aircraft. The bonus for me was, I got to watch all the parachutists jump out, while I got to land back on Terra Firma whilst still in the aircraft.
After leaving the Army I moved to sunny Brisbane where I worked for the Pine Rivers Shire Council in a variety of administration roles. Here I became familiar with working in a legislative environment and dealing with the EPA and Local Laws. A long list of new skills was gained in my time at Council including, GIS systems operation, data entry, accounts and event management to name but a few. My last few years with Council introduced me to another new skill – Graphic Design – which really caught my interest. So at the age of 30, I decided to leave full time employment,
go to college and obtain my Diploma in Graphic Design and Business.
My career in Graphic Design saw me working in a number of different positions, from newspaper and magazine publishing, to large format printing, vehicle wrapping and bulk mailing houses. Graphic Design is a fast paced industry with ever changing deadlines and shifting priorities. Having said that – it’s a whole lot of fun! Dealing directly with clients was always my favourite part of the job.
Since moving to Kilmore in 2010 with my partner Gary (a W01 in the Army) I made many friends and learned a lot about my new community through taking a job at the Local Newspaper (The North Central Review/Free Press). I initially took on a Sales role with the paper covering the Macedon Ranges area. After six months in the sales area I took up a Graphic Design position in the Commercial Print arm of the paper. The recent shift of focus in the industry toward a more online based environment has lead me back to my roots and once again my motivation became Customer Service/Administrative.
I applied for the role with CMPA because it is a great fit to my unique set of skills, combining elements of Design, Administration, Accounts and Customer Service. I am thoroughly enjoying the work so far and have learned so much in the past few weeks. I am looking forward to discovering more about the industry, its people and its role in our future.
