Servicing members – Objectives

The Objectives are to fulfill the intent of the Statement of Purpose and are developed outside of the Articles of Association to allow regular reviews to be undertaken by the Management Committee without the onerous obligations attached to such a variation.

This document was approved at the CMPA Management Committee Meeting held on 21/7/2006.


Supporting Member’s Needs

  • Promote a sustainable construction material processing business sector
  • Encouraging the use of minimum industry standards through the effective communication of ideas by the CMPA, its Members, and others
  • Develop a better understanding of the operation and running of individual businesses between Members
  • Act upon Members concerns and needs
  • Provide opportunities to network and make contacts with decision makers
  • Form relationships with other associations who hold similar values as the CMPA
  • Develop reference material, standardised documentation and other literature for industry

Representing Members

  • Provide representation and a unified voice for Members concerning issues affecting the operation of their businesses
  • Development of CMPA opinion on specific issues based on input from Members to formulate a collective and unified response for presentation to Government and others
  • Meet with senior bureaucrats to better understand how each system of management works
  • Inform Government decision makers of the potential impact of policies upon industry
  • Provide support from the excesses of bureaucracy

Relationships with Suppliers

  • Ensure exposure of industry suppliers and consultants is maximised without compromising the association’s other objectives
  • Provide information for industry suppliers and consultants to better their understanding of the extracting and processing of construction materials Security of Resources
  • Ensure long term entry to the industry is possible by championing issues of resource access and availability, and reduced regulatory burdens
  • Encourage the removal of unwarranted restrictions of entry
  • Provide support mechanisms to help the represented businesses and resources remain commercially viable
  • Work cooperatively with all affected parties to form reasonable outcomes to conflicting issues
  • Promote sound environmental rehabilitation practices

OH&S and Environmental Objectives

  • Support Members in achieving health, safety and environmental outcomes
  • Development and presentation of initiatives which increase Members understanding of health, safety and environmental issues
  • Promote self regulation through sustainable practices and triple bottom line approaches for achieving recognised health, safety and environmental outcomes
  • Participate in any reviews of documents, systems of management or legislation relevant to the industry to ensure the reviews are purposeful, achievable, practicable and a more productive and safe working environment will result

Vocational Training Objectives

  • Encourage and assist in the continuous improvement of education and training
  • Develop industry traineeships through:
  • Promote the industry to students undertaking secondary and tertiary education
  • Encouraging businesses to support, and employees to participate in traineeship training
  • Fostering a culture in which employees request vocational training as part of their employment opportunities
  • Encouraging businesses to use traineeships as a means of introducing younger people into what is an ageing workforce
  • Establishing and supporting networks within the association that develop a businesses’ understanding of the vocational training options
  • Support registered training organisations and the state training authority by:
  • Encouraging and fostering quality training & assessment
  • Assist the State Training Authority with auditing & registration of industry RTOs
  • Address literacy needs of employees within the industry through the continuing access of WELL funding
  • Actively seek funding for both private and public RTOs

Association’s Sustainability

  • Establishment of ‘Young CMPA’ to provide a support mechanism of the next generation of industry participants
  • Establish sustainable long-term means of funding the continued growth of the association
  • Establish an independent office and training facility at a central location
  • Establish interstate affiliate associations
