Training Material Closer to Completion
TEGAN ELDRIDGE, CMPA Document Development Officer reports on attending training courses and visiting quarry operations to further the development of key training material.
MY April/May article commented on my anticipation in attending the Combined Crushing and Screening Course at the Box Hill Institute on May 15th. I was able to meet many trainees and make inquires as to their general level of knowledge of the topics at hand and the amount of practical experience they had with the equipment to be discussed.
I also gained a deeper insight into the experience of those undertaking the course and was also able to view the presentation of the course by way of supplementary materials.
On the 4th of June I made site visits to four different quarries to increase the database of images to be used in upcoming magazines and training manuals.
At Cemex I had the opportunity to observe the setting up process for a drill and blast. Phil Hope gave me a tour of the entire fixed plant from the traffic signals for feeding the primary to the pressurised control room and the separating stacker conveyor. Thank you to Phil for taking the time to guide me through their Oaklands Junction plant.
David Carrucan gave me the pleasure of a tour of Recycling Industries (Alex Frasers) original plant as well as their new state of the art plant due to be commissioned in a matter of weeks.
At Aidan J Graham Pty Ltd, Anthony showed me around their mobile plant as well as other earthmoving works currently being performed onsite.
Stuart of Burdett Sands provided me with an insight into the workings of a sand plant, which will assist in developing the Sand Manual in coming months.
Many specific conveyor images required for this Screening Manual were also obtained on site.
These site visits ended the search for the countless photos necessary to bring many of the manuals I have been working on much closer to completion, especially the Conduct Operations Screening Manual and the Service and Maintain: Conveyors, Bins and Hoppers.
Thank you again to the management of the quarries for allowing me onsite and especially to those people who took the time to guide me through the processes of their quarry and plant.
