The Secretariat is presently developing an information sheet for community explaining the industry and its importance. This two-page sheet is designed to assist in a site’s community relations.
The draft document will be posted on the CMPA website, and your comments would be appreciated. If you would like multiple high quality copies please contact Sarah.

With the 2006-07 financial year coming to a close it is once again time for the renewal of CMPA Memberships. Members should have received their renewal paperwork by now and prompt renewal would be greatly appreciated.
The CMPA is proud to announce that Association Membership has now risen to:

We look forward to another successful year representing the interests of the construction material processing industry.

Mobile Plant Add-Ons Update
The CMPA, in conjunction with a number of its Associate Members, will be holding a Mobile Plant Safety Add-Ons Update for its Members focussing on ‘safety add-ons’ which improve the efficiency and/or safety of mobile plant equipment.
The purpose of this event, to be held on Friday 27 July, is to create a greater awareness of what is available and how it addresses specific hazards and inefficiencies.
Please contact the CMPA for further information on this event.
Sale of Public Land & Open Space for Development
An all-party Committee of the Victorian Parliament has recently been established to examine the sale and development of public land in Victoria. The Committee will inquire into and report on matters relating to:
- The sale or alienation of public land for development;
- The sale or alienation of public open space for the purposes of private development; and
- The sale or alienation of public land for development and the relationship to the Victorian Government’s Melbourne 2030 policy and Green Wedges.
Members situated on/abutting public land are asked to contact the CMPA to ensure that Association’s submission reflects your needs.
Dust Management Guidelines
Most employers and employees are aware that dusts in quarries can be a serious health hazard. As such, the CMPA has developed the Dust Management Guidelines to assist its Members in managing the hazard of dusts in the quarry.
The document has now been completed and will be distributed to all CMPA Voting Members in the near future and included as a standard appendix in the Work Safely Reference Manual.
Please contact the CMPA for further information or additional copies.
Crushing & Screening Reference Manuals Project
The first manual Conduct Crushing Operations has been completed, a pilot course undertaken and the course now approved for general facilitation. (Contact the CMPA for enquiries or to make a booking). The second manual Conduct Screening Operations is in its final drafting stages and is due for release in July, while Service and Maintain Crushers and Service and Maintain Screens are currently being drafted.
Members are asked for their assistance in the development of these manuals, with any photos of relevance being greatly appreciated.
Thanks to all Members who have generously offered their support both financially and by personal assisting with the development process.
Move to WorkCover
Quarries will now be under Construction & Utilities at WorkCover while mines, petroleum and geo-thermal will be under Major Hazard Facilities.
This is a win for the CMPA and will result in equal management of Work Authorities, mobile operators and recycling facilities.
Tripartite Safety Forum
This meeting was held on 2 May. Key discussions at the meeting included the DPI’s quarterly report and an update on the transition process. As a general comment, all parties are remaining relatively quiet.
CMPA Annual General Meeting
Although no Committee positions are up for re-election, there are still a couple of positions available. Contact the CMPA if you are interested. Please note this will entail four committee meetings per year.
DPI Regulation
The CCAA has approached the CMPA seeking examples of where DPI inspectors have over zealously or inconsistently applied legislation. If you have any examples that may be of assistance, please contact Sarah and they will be passed on.
