Native Vegetation
The CMPA accepted an invitation to join the Native Vegetation Management Guidelines for the Earth Resources Industries Working group where the CMPA’s interests lie in how the guidelines will assist members in making their businesses more efficient and sustainable.
Sarah Andrew recently took Chris Pitfield of the DSE on a number of site visits to provide an introduction to the industry as he will be responsible for developing the guidelines.
It is anticipated that the document will be released during the week beginning 24th September, with an update on the Native Vegetation issue scheduled for CMPA Members on the afternoon of Friday 28th September.
Cultural Heritage Management Plan
The CMPA has contracted legal firm Just Outcomes to develop a Cultural Heritage Management Plan for Members in accordance with the Heritage Act and its Regulations.
A cultural heritage management plan is required for an activity if:
- All or part of the activity area for the activity is an area of cultural
- heritage sensitivity; and
- All or part of the activity is a high impact activity.
The concept of developing a template will be of great assistance and will save Members considerable expense as it will not be necessary to pay drafting costs to a consultant.
Just Outcomes have been in contact with Aboriginal Affairs Victoria (AAV) who are pleased with this initiative and will be assisting in the development of the draft document.
River Red Gum Forests Investigation Draft Proposals
The Draft Proposals have been released by the Victorian Environmental Assessment Council (VEAC) and are now available and can be obtained from the CMPA.
The CMPA comments relating to the draft proposals are currently being developed. Please contact the CMPA if you have any suggestions.
CCF Seminar
A seminar was held recently for local government engineers to discuss the issue of delivering a quality road product.
The program included a suppliers perspective (CMPA), testing the product, design considerations, supervision and auditing. The CMPA presentation will be published next issue.

Following on from a recent meeting with Box Hill Institute of TAFE regarding the development of the Crushing & Screening Reference Manuals, the CMPA has been assured that the project will be completed by 15 December.

Review of the EIDA
The review of the Extractive Industries Development Act 1995 is still outstanding with a summary of recommendations made by the CMPA published on pages 22—23.
The CMPA will hold a General Meeting for Members on this topic once the document is released.
