Management Committee Meeting
The first Management Committee Meeting for 2025 was held at the Century Inn, Traralgon commenced at 10:00am Friday 21 February 2025. The following attended Jason Comben (Chair), Craig Banthorpe, Matt Skidmore, David McKelvie, Andrew Burdett (MS Teams), Garry Cranny (MS Teams), John Pititto (Treasurer) (MS Teams). The financial report to 31 January 2025 was presented by John Pititto with profit currently ahead of budget.
A discussion centred on the ongoing issue of unviable rehabilitation bonds being set by the Earth Resources Regulator. It was proposed that legal advice be obtained: “In respect of whether the Energy and Resources Minister MUST levy a 100% rehabilitation bond for quarry sites under the Mineral Resources (Sustainable Development) Act 1990 (‘MRSDA’) and can The Minister consider the positives (assets, remaining resource, value of land etc.) in addition to the negatives as per the rehabilitation bond calculator in setting the rehabilitation bond liability?”
It was proposed that research into determining the relationship between Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS) levels measured with personal monitoring on the quarry site compared to the levels measured at the quarry boundary. This is to avoid duplication of monitoring and costs.
Conversations to be held with the EPA. Note the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists have stated that the Workplace Exposure Levels for RCS (0.025 mg/m3) being proposed by Safe Work Australia levels cannot be measured accurately withcurrent technology.

Associates Committee Meeting
On the 27th February 2025, the CMPA Associate Committee held it’s first meeting of the year via MS Teams.
An update was provided on this years Annual Dinner, with it being CMPA’s 25th Anniversary the event is being held at Centre Piece – Melbourne Park.
A lot of planning is going into this years Annual Dinner as it will be a celebration of the journey of CMPA and all the members that have contributed to help grow and develop the Association, as well as a look into the evolution of the Quarry Industry over the past 25 years.
Sponsorship Flyers have been sent out to CMPA members, and there has been a good take up of each level of sponsorship. We will also be holding an indoor Trade Show. Participation in the Trade Show is available to Platinum and Gold Sponsors.
The MC and Entertainment have also been confirmed and booked. Invitations will go out to members early April.
A review was conducted of the up coming Events and Workshops for 2025. Work Safely – Traralgon and Fatigue Management Webinar held in February, Slimes ManagementWorkshop to be held in March and the last of the Work Safely Workshops to be held in May 2025.
