A helping hand for hay

By on March 24, 2026

Recent fires in Victoria devastated hundreds of thousands of hectares, destroying homes, structures and farming landscapes.

Many farmers lost stored hay/silage and pasture, leaving them without stockfeed they normally rely on during late Summer and Autumn.

Burnt hay and silage stocks in the North-East fire zone, including areas impacted by fires near Alexandra and Longwood, totalled around 21,293 tonnes.

Vast areas of grazing pasture were also charred, roughly 67,366 hectares in the North-East.

These losses represented feed that would normally sustain livestock for weeks or months.

Peninsula Quarries was one of many to come together and help fire-affected communities, donating time and effort in supporting residents and farmers.
They sent hay and stockfeed to help the community and their livestock; one truck and trailer with four bales of hay and a load of stock feed were delivered to ‘tip-off points.’

“Our partnership with the CMPA is important as they provide education, training and critical information and updates to industry. They represent the best interests of quarries in Victoria, providing regular notifications on standards and safety as well as changes to legislation and regulatory requirements, which assists us in our daily operations,” said Alex Murray
