By on May 12, 2026

Every career tells a story and often, it’s the experiences outside a job title that make people most effective in their roles. On International Women’s Day, Komatsu celebrated the women who bring that experience to work every day. Not just their technical skills or industry knowledge, but the full breadth of who they are and how that makes the business stronger, safer, and more innovative.

Amber Rickard at Komatsu for over 30 years

National Construction Experience Manager, Amber Rickard’s has a career spanning 30 years at Komatsu.

“When I started at Komatsu 30 years ago, I never imagined where the journey would take me. Starting as a trainee engineer gave me a deep understanding of how our machines work but more importantly how our people work,” said Amber.

“My engineering background helped me understand the intricacies of our operations but experience isn’t just technical, it’s about perspective. Recently I faced one of the biggest challenges of my life – fighting and recovering from breast cancer, that experience changed my perspective. It strengthened my resilience, it sharpened my priorities and it gave me a deeper appreciation for support, leadership and community.”

“Every one of my experiences – technical, professional and personal shapes how I show up and lead and when women’s voices and expertise are recognised, it strengthens Komatsu.”

Amber’s story is an important reminder that experience, in all its form, matters.
