Crushing Systems for Victorian Quarrying Applications

By on July 2, 2026

Finlay Screening & Crushing Systems has been supporting the Victorian quarry and aggregates industry for more than 20 years, supplying and backing a wide range of mobile crushing, screening and conveying equipment.

One of the standout solutions currently available to local operators is the Finlay C‑1550+ tracked cone crusher — a machine designed to deliver high productivity, reliability and serviceability in demanding applications.

Finlay US Open Day – C-155+

Manufactured by Finlay, a global leader in mobile quarrying and materials processing equipment, the C‑1550+ represents the next evolution of the well‑proven C‑1550 platform.

The machine has been developed to meet the increasing demands of modern quarry operations, where consistent throughput, reduced downtime and safe maintenance access are critical performance factors.

At the heart of the machine is the upgraded Terex® 1300X cone crusher, featuring a 1300mm (52”) head diameter. Engineering refinements within the crushing chamber deliver an approximate 15% increase in production capacity compared with the previous model.

Ultrasonic level sensors – consistent feed profile and reduction in blockages

Higher clamp forces and a longer throw contribute to improved tonnage while maintaining excellent product shape, particularly in secondary and tertiary crushing applications.

Importantly for Australian contractors and quarry operators, the overall machine weight has also been optimised to support easier transport between sites.

From an operational perspective, the C‑1550+ has been engineered with uptime firmly in mind. A mechanical liner retention system and a common upper frame allow for rapid liner changes across coarse, medium or fine liner configurations, reducing service time and maximising productive hours.

Full‑width access catwalks on both sides of the machine provide safe access to critical maintenance areas, while clearly defined isolation points support safer service procedures.

Material flow through the crusher is automatically managed via ultrasonic level sensors positioned between the hopper and crushing chamber. This system maintains a consistent feed profile, helping to reduce blockages and stabilise crushing performance.

The C‑1550+ is also capable of accepting an all‑in feed, which can allow quarry operators to simplify circuit layouts by minimising the requirement for additional screening equipment.

Safety remains a key focus of the machine’s design. An automated metal detection and purge system protects the cone crusher from tramp metal.

If uncrushable material is detected on the feed conveyor, the system automatically stops the belt and clears the obstruction via the purge chute, reducing downtime and minimising the risk of internal damage.

Fuel efficiency is supported through a direct drive system operating via a wet clutch, helping to reduce operating costs. Fully hydraulic closed side setting adjustment with electronic monitoring allows operators to make precise product size changes without halting production.

Workshop facility at Somerton – sales, service and parts

In Victoria, the Finlay C‑1550+ is supported locally by Finlay Screening & Crushing Systems, with sales, service and parts support provided from the company’s Somerton (Melbourne) facility.

The business maintains local machine stock, spare parts inventory and workshop facilities, ensuring responsive support throughout the life of the equipment. Finlay Screening & Crushing Systems has also maintained a long‑standing association with CMPA Victoria for more than 15 years, actively supporting industry events and initiatives across the state.

With proven performance, strong local support and a focus on productivity and safety, the Finlay® C‑1550+ cone crusher continues to be a practical solution for Victorian quarry operators working in demanding applications.

We would like to thank Finlay for being a CMPA Member for over 18 years and for representing the interests of small to medium businesses in the quarry industry.
