BCA Consulting
From: Bell, Cochrane and Associates Extractive Industries To: BCA Consulting Earth Resources.
In recent times Bell Cochrane and Associates has had a bit of a makeover. We are pleased to announce that we have undergone a name change and a location change. Bell Cochrane and Associates is now known as BCA Consulting Earth Resources. This name came about as an acronym to Bell Cochrane & Associates and reflects our many years of consulting to the extractive industries and also that the original name plate holders – Geoff Bell and Greg Cochrane – are now no longer with us.
The name change coincides with the relocation from the hazy hills of St Andrews, which has been the base for the last 26 years, to a new base in suburban Nunawading. In keeping with our origins the office/factory complex is located in Norcal Road in a clay pit precinct and directly opposite the old Daniel Robertson quarry and brickworks. This move makes us more accessible to our clients as well as gaining space for more facilities and provide opportunities for the company to expand its range of services. These aesthetic changes however, have not affected the core of the company.
Basil Natoli who has been the foreperson for Bell Cochrane and associates for 33 years, remains the principal at BCA Consulting. His many years of experience and knowledge of the extractive industries have enabled BCA to grow and provide ongoing support to our many clients. Our involvement in a number of their sites now spans over three decades.
The BCA business was originally founded by geologist Eric Webb in the mid 1960’s and traded as E. A. Webb & Associates until 1972 when Geoff Bell took it over. Geoff initially traded as G. Bell & Associates later becoming Bell, Cochrane & Associates when Greg Cochrane joined in the late 1970’s.
Basil Natoli worked for E.A. Webb & Associates from 1970 to 1972 and then for The Readymix Group until 1983 when he set up his own consulting business. In 1984 following the sudden death of Geoff Bell, Basil acquired the extractive industries section of his consulting practice which has continued as Bell, Cochrane & Associates Extractive Industries until being re-badged as BCA Consulting Earth Resources in 2016.
The BCA group has increased recently with Colin Thornton joining us in mid-2016. Colin is a mining engineer with over 20 years operational experience in Australia and overseas and 17 years as the district mines/quarries inspector for the north western region of Victoria. Colin brings extensive knowledge and experience in the regulation and approvals area which has been invaluable in coping with the recent changes within our regulator’s Department. Colin joins with the other BCA members – Ian, Cameron, Andrew, Jason and Liesl to continue providing our clients with prompt professional advice.
BCA provides a range of services for the extractive industries from regional studies for selection of potential construction material supply sites to detailed evaluation of reserves in existing quarries, pits and undeveloped sites. Some of these services include geological assessment and investigation of sites, resource assessments, quarry development planning, risk-based work plans, source rock and product material testing, cartography and site safety management plans.
Throughout the years, BCA Consulting has provided services to an extensive range of clients including all the major public quarrying companies, numerous private quarrying companies, construction companies, government departments and agencies, local government, financial institutions and individuals.
BCA was a founding member of the CMPA and is still very heavily involved in the CMPA and its drive to represent the earth resources industries to the regulators and community.
Although our company has adopted some name changes over the decades, BCA Consulting’s primary focus remains to provide excellent expert advice and services to our clients using competent people with direct experience in this industry.
