CMPA 4TH ANNUAL DINNER

By on October 24, 2004

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER!

The CMPA would like to thank all those who attended the CMPA Annual Dinner on Saturday 14th August. The evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all and provided a great chance to catch up with old friends in the quarrying industry.

Many CMPA members travelled great distances to be a part of the evening and to experience the luxurious and historical settings of Sovereign Hill, Ballarat.

The dinner was thoroughly supported with a full attendance of 160 members, their employees and families, from around Victoria. The annual dinner provides the opportunity for those associated with the quarrying industry to come together in a casual and relaxed manner, and simply enjoy the company of their fellow industry members.

We have received a great deal of positive feedback from the evening with members already looking forward to the 2005 event.

The CMPA would like to thank the Patron, Mr Ross Williams, along with the guest speakers of the evening, Mr Geoff Howard – Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture, and Mr Richard Aldous – Executive Director Minerals & Petroleum, for giving up their time to spend the evening with us, and for the effort they put into their presentations. Thanks must also go to our MC, Mr Jim Playsted, for his entertaining and professional contributions to the evening.

The CMPA would like to express its sincere appreciation towards Mr Andrew Lambing, CMPA Associate Committee Chairperson, for his continual support of the CMPA and his dedication towards the organisation and preparation of the dinner. Mr Lambing was responsible for coordinating the CMPA Associate Members in their involvement in the evening, and without his exceptional organisational skills such an event would be impossible.

Furthermore, the CMPA wishes to express its gratitude towards the Associate Members for their sponsorship of the evening. Without the support of the Associates, such an enjoyable event would be unachievable.

Our thanks go out to the following Associates for their donations and sponsorship of the evening:

  • Komatsu Australia
  • Hitachi
  • Emeco
  • Orica Australia
  • BT Equipment
  • William Adams
  • Melroad Equipment
  • Polo Citrus Australia
  • G P Smith Equipment

  • Box Hill Institute of TAFE
  • SuperSigns Australia
  • Melbourne Finance Broking
  • Jaques
  • Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE
  • CEC Electrical
  • Gordyn & Palmer
  • CK Prowse & Associates
  • Optimum Career

This year’s raffle was bigger and better than ever with a wide range of prizes donated by the Associates. Prizes included a DVD player, watch, jacket, and a luxurious accommodation package for the Crown Casino. Congratulations to all those fortunate enough to win prizes on the evening.

The Annual General Meeting, held in the Sovereign Hill Theatre, was well attended by approximately 60 Voting Members. The meeting encompassed a vote on the new CMPA Statement of Purpose, along with reports on the progress and activities of the CMPA over the last 12 months.

Reports included:

  • Management Committee Report, presented by the CMPA Chairperson, Mr Grant Phillips;
  • Education Committee Report, presented by the Education Committee Chairperson, Mr Tim Bird;
  • Associate Committee Report, presented by Associate Committee Chairperson, Mr Andrew Lambing; and
  • Treasure’s Report, presented by the CMPA Treasurer, Ms Mary Thompson.

The Annual General Meeting was followed by pre-dinner drinks in the USA Hotel. Of those who attended the pre-dinner drinks, some were lucky enough to experience a fascinating performance from the magician, Barry Govan, as he moved around entertaining the guests with his amazing card skills and the various other tricks hidden up his sleeve.

Throughout the evening we were treated to the performance of a wonderfully talented band, who certainly pleased the crowd with their ability to perform such a wide variety of music styles.

Many also took the opportunity to have their pictures drawn by the caricaturist, who certainly provided many laughs with his amazing artistic abilities and humorous portrayals of those game enough to give it a go.

Many of those who attended the evening took the opportunity to make a weekend of it, staying at Sovereign Hill to explore the park the following day. For those interested, there was also the opportunity to attend a free tour of the active underground gold mine in Ballarat on the Sunday.

The mine tour was attended by approximately 16 people and was certainly enjoyed by all those who participated.

We again sincerely thank all those who attended and supported the 4th CMPA Annual General Meeting and Dinner, and look forward to seeing you all again next year!
