Credit Card Facilities
Following enquiries from numerous Members, the CMPA now has Credit Card facilities which are available for use by all CMPA customers. As a means of minimising costs to the Association a surcharge of 2% of the transaction amount will be applied to all transactions over $100.
Annual General Meeting – Nominations and Elections
The CMPA 2006 Annual General & Dinner to be held on Saturday 12 August is fast approaching. The Annual General Meeting will incorporate nominations and elections for future Management Committee position holders with many current Committee members having fulfilled their time.
We encourage any Voting Members interested in being further involved in their Association to come forward, furthermore, all nominations are welcome. Further information will be distributed as the time gets closer.
CMPA Guarding Workshop #2!
Following the success of the recent Guarding Workshop we have received a number of enquiries to run a second Guarding Workshop in the coming months.
A significant indication of Member interest would be required to run another event; please contact the CMPA if you or your employees would be interested in attending.
The Workshop will be held in June if there is sufficient interest.
Transport Industry Council
As the first stage of the introduction of the Owner Drivers & Forestry Contractors Act 2005, the State Government have established the “Transport Industry Council”.
This Council consists of representatives from VECCI, Victorian Trades Hall Council (2 representatives), AIG (1 representative), Victorian Transport Association (2 representatives), Transport Workers Union (2 representatives) and an observer from Vic Roads.
The CMPA has maintained its involvement in this process, and has indicated its willingness to sit on a Working Group who will assist the TIC.
One of the first activities of the TIC has been the release of an Issues Paper to gather people’s views on issues such as unpaid work arrangements, fuel variation clauses and purchase or a new vehicle. The paper covers a wide range of issues and presents a number of challenging questions. Submissions are due 1 May 2006.

Subsidised Internet Connection
The Federal Government has reintroduced subsidies for broadband services in rural and remote areas. Depending on location and service level required, subsidies of up to $3,300 are available for remote subscribers.

Free Advice for Small Business Small business operators can access free OHS advice online or in person through a new Federal Government sponsored program run by the Australian Industry Group (AIG).
The small business OHS advisers’ program offers safety seminars, onsite assistance and telephone support for business operators who have full-time
staff of 20 or fewer.
AIG said a website, www.smallbusinessohs.com.au provided an online questionnaire and checklist, and links to relevant State Government Authorities.
The site also contained information sheets on common OHS topics,such as noise, falls, chemicals and manual handling. Last October,employment minister Kevin Andrews announced AIG had won a tender to deliver the $7 million program until June 2007.
