OHS Regulations

Victoria’s 13 current Occupational Health and Safety Regulations are now being reviewed and consolidated into a single document.

Comments are open until 28 February. The CMPA will be making a submission

OHS—DPI to VWA

As Members would be aware, the regulation of OH&S in the earth resources industry will move from the Department of Primary Industries to the Victorian WorkCover Authority. The CMPA is now developing a submission consolidating our expectations.

It is important that CMPA Members inform the Association of what you want the VWA to do and how you want them to do it to ensure the submission is reflective of Members’ needs.

The CMPA encourages a concerted effort to ensure a reduction in the severity and frequency of incidents and regulatory burden.

Members are asked to contact Sarah Andrew at the Secretariat for further information or to make comments.

Relating to this issue, it is important to note that all new incident investigations will now be undertaken by the VWA.

Review of Security Sensitive Chemicals

A discussion paper on the review of security sensitive chemicals was released in November 2006. The Victorian Government has since arranged a number of consultation sessions to provide Victorian stakeholders with the opportunity to discuss and provide feedback on the issues outlined in the paper.

Whilst these consultation sessions will be conducted during the period of time that this publication is being printed, information on the results of these sessions can be obtained by contacting Peter McCluskey from the VLPA.

Publication Reference Guide

All Members should have now received their copy of the CMPA Publication Reference Guide as distributed in late January.

This publication provides information on all CMPA developed publications
and documentation available for purchase.

We encourage Members to utilise this reference manual as these publications and documentation assist in complying with regulatory requirements, contribute to the smooth running of your business, and assist in maintaining a safe workplace for your employees.

Please contact Briony Rowley at the CMPA for further information, sample copies or to make a purchase.
