Crushing & Screening Update

By on January 25, 2009

Drafting eight Reference Manuals to be used in industry training has been no easy feat, and to finalise this work the CMPA engaged TEGAN ELDRIDGE. She reports on her progress to date and planned activities for the coming weeks.

HAVING got a handle on the reference manuals, I am now working on several of the manuals concurrently to ensure they continue progressing and are available for training as soon as possible.

Following is a brief update on each of the manuals.

CONDUCT CRUSHING OPERATIONS

The manual is complete and has been tested on a number of occasions. Comments and suggestions made during training and by those who have read the manual are being considered, and where appropriate, changes made to the reference manual.

Several images are still required for the manual including:

  • Jaw Face with Uneven Vertical Wear
  • Appropriate Raw Feed
  • Uneven Feed across Material Feeder
  • Damage to Impact Plate
  • Crusher Feed with Excessive Fines
  • Crusher Feed with Oversize Material
  • Bridged Crusher/Feed Hopper Overflowing Due to a Blockage
  • Checking CSS Using a Ball of Foil
  • Measuring Width of Crushed Foil using Vernier Calliper
Damaged Cone Crusher Mantle

CONDUCT SCREENING OPERATIONS

This manual is essentially completed, however a number of photographs are required particularly covering head and tail drums; GTU; sweeping tramp metal removal; and deflector tramp metal removal. Pilot courses have been held and the manual further refined, with further suggestions always welcome.

CONDUCT COMBINED CRUSHING & SCREENING

Over Christmas additional information was supplied by Mike McCann from Terex Jaques on impactors along with information by Terry Hickey from Gordyn & Palmer on plant automation. John Bonnitcha is presently developing more detailed information on bearings and v-belts and this information will also be incorporated into the manual.

CONDUCT SAND PLANT OPERATIONS

This manual is in the early development phase with meetings to be held with operators over the coming months. I will be contacting operators directly to arrange a suitable time once the previous interviewee’s suggestions have been incorporated.

CONDUCT BLENDING OPERATIONS

Final information checking is occurring through Members and the first pilot course will be held later this year (see the calendar for further details). Particular thanks must go to Walsh Ballarat Quarries and Galli Quarries for their assistance in recent weeks.

MANUALS UNDER CONSTRUCTION

  • Service and Maintain Crushers
  • Service and Maintain Screens
  • Service and Maintain Conveyors, Bins and Hoppers

These three manuals are not being worked on in the short term although all three have a first draft developed. They will be further progressed once the other manuals are closer to completion. If you require these for training in the second half of this year, please let me know as this can be scheduled.

Members and other readers are invited to contact me if they have any suggestions or comments in relation to any of the manuals. In particular we are seeking a large number of photographs showing both things going well and things going not so well – both are essential in training.

Once again, thanks to all Members for their assistance when sought and I will keep you informed over the coming months of the progression of these manuals.
