BUSINESS SUPPORT MECHANISM

By on July 3, 2002

In an industry that can be at times isolated as well as increasingly complex due to regulatory and compliance issues, many members have requested advice on various business support issues.

In a direct response to member needs the management committee has resolved to develop the concept of a business support team that may incorporate the likes of valuers, geologists, machinery, legal and accountancy experts who would make themselves available to support members.

“Issues affecting our members’ businesses directly effect family incomes and as such require continual attention to ensure they are not adversely influenced by change.”

Mr Kerr said it had become clear that many small businesses presently unable to fully meet regulatory requirements concerning environmental or safety matters or were in financial difficulties and required independent assessment as to viability and the ability to meet obligations. A key in influencing the concept is that many businesses have no clear exit strategy in place.

Further, new players to the industry could better understand entry and running costs of doing business and the regulatory requirements from purchasing capital equipment through to managing a work site.

Mr Kerr implored members to contribute to this initiative and offer support if able.

In drawing the report to a close Mr Kerr said that current and potential members should contribute to the CMPA’s evolution to ensure that continued existence in the industry or new entry is not restricted by unnecessary regulation and that dignified and meaningful employment is supported and recognised as the main game.

“Issues affecting our members’ businesses directly effect family incomes and as such require continual attention to ensure they are not adversely influenced by change.”
