CHAIRPERSON’S COMMENT – INDUSTRY SPECIFIC GUIDELINES

By on July 2, 2001

Over recent months, we have been presented with various Guidelines that require the input of members before they are finalised. This is an excellent opportunity for those who are going to be governed by a document to contribute to the document. As such we have always sought for as much member input as possible and express gratitude towards the DNRE and other regulators for this opportunity.

It should be realised however that it is not all tea and cookies! At times we have felt that the resulting guidelines are not to the standard that members need to use as a daily tool. With this in mind, the CMPA has held discussions with the DNRE and other regulators to float the potential for members to participate in the development of Industry specific guidelines, and to raise awareness of the difficulties of correlating, formatting and funding this project that the CMPA would need addressed.

Other points raised at these meetings included that:

  1. The idea of the ownership of guidelines is encouraged to ensure they are taken on by industry;
  2. Guidelines must be developed in the context of those who will be required to use them (eg: employees, employers, regulators and educational institutions);
  3. -guidelines.

We look forward to continuing these discussions and also working through future Guidelines with membership more thoroughly.
