City Circle Group – Chain Reaction Charity Bike Ride

The General Manager for City Circle Group and CMPA member, Matt Skidmore recently participated in the Chain Reaction Melbourne Challenge 2023 (Chain Reaction Challenge Foundation) from 12th – 18th March.

The Chain Reaction Challenge is a charitable organisation that uses cycling as a vehicle to raise money for nominated charities, this year the Starlight Children’s Foundation Australia and Monash Health, two amazing charities supporting sick kids.

Matt Completed the event as part of the Slattery/City Circle team, who along with 50 other riders were able to raise just under $1.4 million dollars that will be dedicated to supporting Starlight and purchasing 20 lifesaving cardio respiratory monitors for newborns.

“I am not a cyclist, however after jumping into this event as a substitute for my father 3 years ago I originally participated as a physical challenge, however it is the stories of people who have been far less fortunate than myself that compel me to return and continue to be a part of this wonderful organisation”.

“Having two children of my own has only strengthened my resolve to take part, I am lucky enough that both of my children were born happy and healthy, and we returned home as a family within days. Unfortunately, this is not the reality for a lot of people and should I ever find myself in a situation I could only hope that the like of Starlight Foundation and Monash Children’s hospital would be there to assist me and my family.”

This years event saw riders complete 1000km over a 7 day period, crossing several mountain ranges over New Zealand’s South Island. The ride is named a challenge for a reason and tests individuals both physical and mental endurance. “it is an event I look forward to every year, the people and charities hold outstanding values that make committing to fundraising and contributing for the annual event non-negotiable.”

City Circle Group has been a valued member of the CMPA for the last 10 years, joining in 2013.
The operations are centered around recycling rather than extractives, but have been an active member involved with the CMPA Management committee and participating in workshops, webinars and other events.
