CMPA Associates (Issue 7)

By on July 2, 2002

Report by Associates Committee secretary, Mark Whitla

The CMPA Associates Committee has established a clear focus on how to address issues of benefit to the membership base.

Formed following a meeting held at Komatsu Campbellfield on February 4 this year, the five member committee has since met three times.

Research has commenced for the development and compilation of the CMPA Purchasing Manual. This manual is intended to provide assistance for members who wish to acquire new and used plant equipment and services.

It was decided at the Management Committee meeting that:

  • Both supplier and owner issues require addressing
  • Associates must consult with the Regulator to ensure that their concerns are met in particular the requirements under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 1985.
  • Commonality is required
  • Owners of capital should be directed to the supplier for advice to achieve compliance.
  • That there be working examples of individual items of capital included in the document for the reader to reference
  • That hand-over requirements cover operator training

Groundwork is underway. Andrew Lambing (Chairperson), Mike McCann (Vice Chairperson) and Glen Jordan from Systec Systems Pty Ltd recently met to discuss a format for the manual. Glen will provide guidance and assist to establish parameters for safety and risk assessment.

Andrew Lambing has spoken with John Mitas of the Department, who showed enthusiasm towards allocation of qualified resources to assist with the compilation of this manual.

It is anticipated that the experience of individual Associate Members can be channeled to develop a quality, practical and useful tool for all CMPA Members.  Input will be sought from various regulatory authorities including the Department of Natural Resources and Energy.

The Associate Committee aims to expand the Associates membership base over the coming months. In terms of representation, it was resolved at the CMPA Management meeting that Associates were limited to two persons representing their companies at General Meetings.

The upcoming expansion of the Associate Committee will seek to include individuals representing companies & industry sectors, which have the capacity to ‘add value’ to the CMPA group collectively.

The CMPA Associates’ General Meeting will be held on Tuesday 16 July 2002. One key agenda item will be elections for representation on this committee for specific industry sectors.

Potentially there are seven positions to be filled and the structure is as follows:
