2023-24 Membership Renewals

Membership renewals for 2023/24 are now OVERDUE. We have had a fantastic response to date, for those who have not responded as, yet it would be greatly appreciated if the application form can be completed and sent back via email. We do require the form to be completed for our records. Once the paperwork has been received a tax invoice will be issued.

This form includes renewal of Membership, Advertising in Sand & Stone and Advertising in the Preferred Suppliers & General Information Reference Manual for 2024.

To ensure your recommended ad size is booked for the year in both publications please return the form by the required date to avoid disappointment.

I remind you that over time, your commitment and interest are noticed by the industry, and we hope rewarded accordingly through an increased market share.

Please ensure your membership is at the right level based on your annual tonnage (Voting) or gross profit in the extractive industry in Victoria (Associate) to ensure you are providing the right support for the CMPA.

Thank you to the CMPA members who have already renewed for the 2023/24 financial year.

Management Committee Meeting

The CMPA Management Committee Meeting 3-2023 was held in Kilmore on Wednesday 2 August 2023. In attendance were Jason Comben (Chair), Craig
Banthorpe, Ashley Day, Tim Bird, Jason Rudge, John Pititto, David McKelvie, Garry Cranny, Cameron Black, Andrew Burdett and Drew Phillips (Deputy Chair).

Prior to the meeting the Committee met with Chris Webb A/CEO Resources Victoria (Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action) regarding the reform of the Mineral Resources (Sustainable Development) Act 1990. The Management Committee did not support the proposed reform.

The Minutes from the previous Meeting 3-2023 were accepted in addition to the Financial Report to 31 July 2023 and the audited 2022/23 Financial Report. The auditors found nothing out of the ordinary.

In General Business the following items for discussion included:

Safety
• WorkSafe’s main focus is on control of RCSD until every quarry is compliant with the Regulations. They will issue improvement notices e.g. “Have to supply air feed hoods to those who have facial hair.” CMPA members to look at real time monitoring trials to get an accurate picture of the impact of silica dust in their quarries.
• WorkSafe is also focused on Mobile plant interaction with light vehicles on
sites, as there have been near misses in the last few months. They are wanting to have cameras and sensors installed on all Mobile equipment.
• Mobile Plant operator training – Qualification of assessors in regard to mobile plant operators training was discussed. Currently Assessors are required to have a Cert 4 in training and assessment to be able to issue a licence. The issue is that Assessors have no experience on quarry sites and therefore have very limited knowledge of what is required of a mobile plant operator in a quarry. The most appropriate people that should be permitted to assess a driver’s qualifications are the experienced (expert) staff on the quarry site. A standard is needed across Australia for training in this area.

2024 Wall Planner

As we approach the final quarter of 2023, the Secretariat is now preparing the re-branded 2024 CMPA Wall Planner. This will be the thirteenth year it has been printed and distributed. An email was sent to all Members requesting advertising for the planner. We have had a fantastic response, but there are still a few spots available to be taken up.

Please email the Secretariat at enquiries@cmpavic.asn.au your ads ASAP. It will be folded and inserted in the October / November issue of Sand & Stone, but unfolded copies can be ordered and printed as well.

Associates Committee Meeting

On 2nd August 2023, the CMPA Associate Committee held its third meeting for the year face to face in Kilmore (Conundrum Holdings HQ) and via MS Teams. Associate Chairperson Jason Rudge (William Adams) opened the meeting for the final time.

The 2023-24 Associate Committee comprises:

A smaller committee for the coming financial year with potential committee
members to be sought in the months ahead. An update was provided on the
Annual Dinner which was ready to go this year. The event was held on Saturday 2nd September 2023 at the MCG in Melbourne. Future issues of Sand & Stone were discussed and so too was the importance of Associate and Workforce member contributions in the form of editorials, advertorials and staff profiles.

A reminder that articles are free and are a benefit to being a Member of the CMPA. A good way to promote and grow your business and tell members about your business.

Associates to provide articles that look at new technologies, innovations or products or services that reduce costs and improve efficiencies for the quarries. This will not only help keep the content interesting for all readers but publicly advertise your business. An integral part of being a member of an association is to be able to communicate to other members what you are all about and what you can offer to help grow each other’s businesses. Successful businesses can only benefit the industry in the long run.

The CMPA online presence continues to grow both on the website and our social media sites LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook, all are pivotal tools to increase brand awareness for Associate businesses. We are currently looking at all our communications with members, potential members and the local communities in particular digital marketing to see where we can improve. A re-development of the website is being undertaken too not only update it but to make it more user friendly.

Future marketing of the CMPA including the new video to follow on from our poster and brochure with the focus still on “Quarries Build Communities”.
