Dangerous Goods (High Consequence Dangerous Goods) Regulations

The Dangerous Goods (High Consequence Dangerous Goods) Regulations were recently released by WorkCover with the intention of managing high consequence dangerous goods such as products containing more then 45% ammonium throughout the state and hopefully limit the possibility of it being used as a tool for terrorists.

It is important to note that ANFO (a mixture of ammonium nitrate and fuel oil) is not covered by the High Consequence Dangerous Goods Regulations but is covered by the Dangerous Goods (Explosives) Regulations 2000. The regulations and further information is now available to be downloaded from a link on the CMPA’s website: www.cmpavic.asn.au

However, a more detailed summary of these regulations and what users would need to do will be included in the next edition of the newsletter. The Dangerous Goods (High Consequence Dangerous Goods) Regulations come into force from 1 January 2006.

Review of the Extractive Industries Development Act

Every 10 years, Acts of Parliament are reviewed to ensure that they remain current and relevant with present industry practices.

The industry will be pleased to note that as part of this process the Extractive Industries Development Act is coming up for review over the next few months, with the objective of having the revised Extractive Industries Development Act released in 2006.

As such, members will see an increase in correspondence as we attempt to gain a clear understanding of what members want and need to see in this revision. Please keep this in mind, and when possible contribute to ensure that your voice is heard.
