NEWCOMB SAND & SOIL SUPPLIES

By on October 25, 2008

JOANNE DUNOON from Newcomb Sand and Soil Supplies’ reports on their family run sandpit located at Hamilton Hwy, Murgheboluc (as per the above photo and that below).

Newcomb Sand and Soil Supplies began operations in 1973 as a small garden supplies business on the corner of High Street and Watt lepark Avenue in Moolap.

In 1976 they relocated to the current Bellarine Highway address in Moolap, where the business – and Doug and Joy’s family – continued to grow and thrive.

Owners Doug and Joy Dunoon had been in the sand, soil and tip truck business since they formed a partnership in 1959 – next year they will celebrate 50 years in business and marriage. As with many family business stories they have worked long hours and made many sacrifices for the success of their business.

Doug and Joy continue to take an active interest in the day to day operations of the garden supplies depot, major earthmoving projects and sandpits.

Doug and Joy raised five children, all of whom are involved in Newcomb Sand and Soil Supplies: Chris as operations manager; Joanne in charge of administration; Pamela as trade/retail sales manager; Stuart in charge of fleet maintenance and earthmoving projects; and David, whilst now employed elsewhere, was involved in the beginning. Then there are the grandchildren Trent, Ryan and Dylan, who are taking the operation into a third generation.

During the 90’s the business expanded into trucks and trailers, 4WD front-end loaders, earthmoving equipment and a modern fleet of machinery ranging from small to large trucks and trailers, and dingos to 25 tonne excavators.

Newcomb Sand and Soil Supplies deliver bulk materials locally and Victoria-wide and perform all aspects of earthmoving such as dam building and driveway construction.

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the CMPA on all their achievements since inception. We are one of the small operators who are grateful to all the people who have donated their valuable time and effort in making the Association a professional organisation for all to be proud of.
