Revised Fee Structure for the Industry

New Annual Fees for Work Authority Granted

DR ELIZABETH GIBSON, provides further information for the industry in relation to the new fees.

The Mineral Resources (Sustainable Development) (Extractive Industries) Regulations 2010 were amended in 2014 and include a revised fee structure to be introduced between 1 January 2015 and 1 January 2017.

These fees have been introduced to achieve alignment with the costs of administering the Mineral Resources (Sustainable Development) Act 1990 (MRSDA) and the regulations in accordance with the Victorian Department of Treasury and Finance Cost Recovery Guidelines.

This has been revised to include:

  • an increase in fees for work authority applications, variations and transfers;
  • an increase in fees relating to work plans and variations; and
  • the introduction of an annual fee for work authorities.

Annual fees relating to work authorities were introduced on 1 January 2015 with subsequent rises to be introduced on 1 January 2016 and 1 January 2017. The new fees are (information sourced from www.energyandresources.vic.gov.au/ earth-resources).

The value of a fee unit for 2014/15 is $13.24.
