SAND BEGINS AT ROCK BOTTOM

By on October 17, 2009

TEGAN ELDRIDGE, CMPA Development Officer reports on her progress of the reference manuals.

Over the preceding period I undertook a site visit to Burdett Sands in Langwarrin to begin making progress on the Conduct Sand Operations Reference Manual, which currently consists of little more than a skeletal structure. Andrew Burdett provided me with an overview of the process involved in screening sand, which will go a long way towards completing the equipment knowledge section of the reference manual.

I was given the opportunity to observe Burdett ’s plant during production and learn of not only their current equipment, but also other existing and developing technology in the industry. I look forward to learning more about processing sand and conducting further meetings with members to gain knowledge of the maintenance required for the processing plant.

The Service & Maintain Conveyors, Bins & Hoppers Reference Manual is to be proof read by Mike Anderson of Jacques’ and Bob Coombs of Pacific Mining and Quarrying. The Conduct Blending & Mixing Reference Manual is believed to be close to completion and will undergo final proof readings by David Jones of Cemex, Tim Bird of ASQ and Adrian Bell of Mawson’s in the coming period.

Thank you to David Carrucan who provided detailed feedback on the Inspect and Clean Screen Cloths task for the Conduct Screening Operations Reference Manual.

Without the feedback of such experienced operators, these manuals would not provide the thorough applied knowledge that they enclose.
