Networking at the Annual Dinner

The 2015 CMPA Annual Dinner was held at the Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre in Wangaratta.  JACINTA GALL, CMPA Administration Support Officer reviews a fantastic weekend.

The weekend began with fifteen CMPA members participating in Down the Line and Skeet shooting at the Wangaratta Clay Target Club. Beautiful sunshine, a great spread for morning tea and some friendly rivalry contributed to a fun afternoon. Some bruised shoulders and a few tall tales resulted.

The evening began with pre-dinner drinks and canapés in the foyer where guests socialised and networked their way through the first hour of the night. Many taking the time to have their caricature drawn by Tony Bramwell (guest artist) and to put themselves through their paces on the Mobile Simulator (supplied with thanks to CJD Equipment).

Whilst most guests were socialising in the foyer the CMPA Annual General Meeting was held in the adjoining meeting room. Garry Cranny, CMPA Chairperson, opened the meeting and spoke about the last twelve months.

All motions were approved including the 2014/15 financials and Matt Skidmore (City Circle Group) and Drew Phillips (Castella Quarries) were successfully voted onto the Management Committee. Presentations were made to past Chairpersons Tim Bird (Allstone Quarries) and John Mawson (EB Mawson & Sons Pty Ltd).

After the Annual General Meeting the doors opened to the main dining room and guests found their way to their tables where they discovered gifts from our platinum sponsors Onetrak and Walsh Group. Onetrak provided stubby holders and lolly bags and Walsh Group provided a stationery gift pack including post it notes, notebook and a pen with stylus. A new twist was put on the evening through the Oli Vibrators Ice-Breaker Challenge. With around 220 guests in attendance the room was abuzz.

The night was officially opened by our very own Gavin Moreira who was our MC for the night. Gavin began by thanking our Sponsors and drawing the Major Door Prize which was presented by Tom Bruce of Crushing Equipment to the winner George Boloutis of Gordyn & Palmer. Onetrak (presented by Nick O’Brien) also provided Hyundai Excavator models as mini door prizes to Peter Brimelow (Terex Jaques), Justin Roylance (Roylances) and Chrissy Knox (South Gippsland Quarries). During our entrée, the Chairman of the Management Committee, Mr Gary Cranny gave us an overview of the last twelve months. Garry then handed over to Rowena Cairns, the acting Associate Chairperson to say a few words on behalf of the Associate Members.

Throughout the evening guests were circulating the tables trying to find a matching nut and bolt for the Oli Vibrators Ice-Breaker Challenge. Five matches were found and those lucky recipients each won a bottle of wine. The feature act of the evening was the Maurice Millani Band who were fabulous and had a lot of the guests up and dancing by the end of the night.

The night finished with guests either walking to their hotels as it was a very mild evening or opting for the shuttle buses which  were provided. The bar at the Wangaratta Gateway seemed to be the meeting place for a few drinks and some more networking after the dinner ended. A large percentage of guests stayed at the Wangaratta Gateway and when they surfaced the next morning there was some more networking over breakfast.

We hope everyone had a fantastic night and CMPA look forward to seeing you at the 2016 Annual Dinner. A list of our sponsors
