Updated Slimes Management Guideline soon to be released
The Slimes Management Guideline has undergone an extensive review with comments and feedback from Resources Victoria and WorkSafe Victoria incorporated.
The guideline is currently being amended for comment and is expected to be released toward the end of June 2026.

The purpose of the Slimes Management Guideline is to assist Victorian Extractive Industry operators in ensuring that health, safety and environmental risks associated with the generation and controls of slimes, and the operation and rehabilitation of slimes management infrastructure is reduced so far as is reasonably practicable.
While the guideline deals specifically with the management of slimes, as a result of washing the sand, it is equally relevant to washing stone dust or manufactured sand. The following information about the safe management of slimes is included in the guideline:
- Contemporary information specific to the management and storage of slimes and the safe and environmentally acceptable operation of the slimes management infrastructure.
- Processes that can be adopted to establish and implement slimes management procedures and practices
- Slimes Management Plan template to assist in meeting the requirements of your Work Plan as required under Mineral Resources (Sustainable Development) Act 1990.
- A guide that helps meet the regulatory requirements that support a work plan/variation.
