Walsh Ballarat Quarries Choose M Series

By on August 6, 2019

Walsh Ballarat Quarries is a privately owned and operated family business that was started in 1980 by Leo Walsh, who opened his first quarry in Dunnstown, 15kms east of Ballarat.

After 15 years of a thriving business in the earth resources industry, Walsh Ballarat Quarries then opened a second quarry site in Learmonth, to the west, in 1995.

Both quarries produce a high-quality aggregate and crushed rock material.

Leo Walsh chose Cat Wheel Loaders in the early days, taking delivery of a 966F in 1991, followed by a 970F in 1995. Leo’s son Raymond updated from the F Series to a 972G in 2001, and then followed up with the new model 972H in 2007.

Fast forward to 2019, and the 972H has accumulated over 17,000 hours, and Cat have now released the M Series… and Raymond’s son Luke has been installed as Quarry Manager!

The new Cat 972M Aggregate Handler was delivered to the third generation of the Walsh family in March 2019. Equipped with a 5.3 cubic metre General Purpose Bucket, it has already proven to be the ideal pass match for typical on highway truck configurations.

The Cat C9.3 ACER T engine offers increased power and is proven to be up to 10% more fuel efficient than K Series and up to 25% more fuel efficient than our H Series loaders.

A best-in-class operator environment provides unmatched comfort, visibility, and efficiency, and combines with technologies including:

  • Cat LINK: VisionL ink ® enables owners to access data wirelessly to monitor machine health, utilization and location.
  • Cat DETECT: An integrated rear vision camera enhances visibility behind the machine to help operators work safely. Cat Rear Object Detection increases operator awareness of the working environment which enhances site safety.
  • Cat PAYLOAD: Cat Production Measurement 2.0 brings simple and accurate on-the-go payload scale allowing operators to deliver exact loads and work more efficiently.

“Versatility even pass match and fuel economy make the 972M Aggregate Handler the right choice”, according to Luke Walsh

Great to see a longstanding working relationship between a CMPA Voting Member in Walsh Ballarat Quarries and a CMPA Associate member in William Adams.

Walsh Ballarat Quarries has been a founding member of the CMPA since 2000 with Raymond being an active supporter of the CMPA.

William Adams has also been a founding member of the CMPA since 2000 with Jason Rudge being the current Associate Chairperson.
