Terex Jaques helps quarries meet increased product demands

Established in 1885, Jaques began manufacturing crushing equipment in Richmond, Victoria. In 1949, it became a public company, listed on the Victorian stock exchange, prior to being taken over by Clyde Engineering in 1978. The company changed hands again in 1997 when it was purchased by Evans Deakin Industries. In 2001, Jaques was purchased by Terex Corporation in the USA, forming Terex Jaques.

With branches in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, Terex Jaques has earned an enviable reputation as a leading supplier of high-quality crushing and screening equipment to customers around the world.

Craig Staggard, Branch Manager- Southern Region at Terex Jaques said, “We have a specialist team of uniquely skilled design and applications engineers in hard rock applications as well as
recycling and sand. This allows us to provide not only machine sales but also aftermarket support and service workshop capabilities throughout Australia, as well as a global presence and support through the Terex Minerals Processing Group.”

With a broad product range, including jaw crushers, cone crushers, apron feeders, vibrating feeders, vibrating screens, impactors, mobile wheeled plants, modular crushing plants and most recently the AggreSand washing system – Terex Jaques has a solution to suit any application and can also deliver custom designed solutions to meet more unique challenges.

AggreSand is Terex Jaques’ new, highly versatile integrated washing station with outstanding performance capability across a wide range of materials.

Its readily portable format makes it particularly suitable for green-field applications, contractor use, temporary planning permission sites as well as fixed installations.

“In addition to our new products, we’ve also seen increasing consumer demand for upgrades to older style Jaques crushers in wedge-adjust machines. As a company we continue to make improvements across the whole product range. We have monitoring systems for crushers so that we can dial in and watch the equipment crush which is a good diagnostic tool. This data is taken so we can look at the kinds of forces that are involved and this information is then fed back into product development and tweaking designs of existing products,” explained Craig.

Terex Jaques are founding members of the CMPA and are committed to their customers and the quarrying industry as a whole. Craig explained that, “The CMPA is a good vehicle for the smaller operators and a good vehicle to find reputable suppliers. It gives us access to customers and provides a platform to showcase our expertise and products. The CMPA is also a very good voice for the industry with government.”

Another area that the CMPA is particularly active in is training and standards. “A significant industry challenge at the moment is the difficulty in finding people with the required skills for the quarrying industry. As a business we are looking to apprenticeships to help address this. There is already a skills shortage and without investing in training, this will only get worse,” Craig explained.

Demand for quarry products is increasing, as a result of the number of infrastructure projects being commissioned.

Terex Jaques has been involved in a wide range of significant projects around the country and the world including; greenfield recycling plants, a mining plant in Vietnam and a number of large and small quarries.

When asked about what the future holds for Terex Jaques, Craig said, “As a business we have over 130 years of design, manufacturing and customer support experience for the quarrying and mining industries in Australia and remote global locations. We expect to be around for the same amount of time to support our customers in the industry and we have a strong commitment to continue to support our products throughout their life cycle with high-quality service, spare parts and local service personnel to service equipment.”

In addition to best in class engineering technology, Terex Jaques provides service and support to match by understanding their customers’ need to maximise productivity and control operating
costs across the working life of every piece of equipment.
