Quarries support communities through floods

By on December 7, 2022

The recent flooding across Eastern Australia has impacted many thousands of people, destroyed homes and ruined businesses. In times of stress and danger communities come together to protect one another from a common threat; in the second half of 2022 that threat has been floodwater.

CMPA members know that local quarrying companies form an integral part of the community; providing jobs and supporting the critical construction industry. When the regions that founding CMPA member, Mawsons work in were threatened the community spirit really showed through. Mawsons’ people and equipment came out in force to supply materials and resources to deal with unprecedented floods along the Goulburn, Campaspe, Loddon and Murray Rivers.

Heavy rains and floods throughout the Riverina in Southern NSW have also been met with people and resources from Mawsons’ Milbrae sites.

Mawsons are proud to have been able to contribute towards helping prepare and protect towns, properties and businesses across a wide area.

Help in the form of concrete agitators assisting to load sandbags directly from the shoot, manpower on shovels manually filling sandbags, tipper deliveries of sand and road base, transporting pumps from quarries to flooded areas, loaders and loader drivers and the use of concrete plants as sandbagging stations are examples of how Mawsons contributed.

As part of this enormous community effort, as a long-established regional business with local staff experienced in emergency relief Mawsons’ efforts have been gratefully acknowledged. Amongst the many grateful text and Facebook messages, a kind Letter of Appreciation was received from the Echuca Village Fire Brigade Captain.
