Management Committee Meeting 2025-3

The CMPA Management Committee meeting 2025-3 commenced 12:30pm on
Wednesday 6 August 2025 in Kilmore. The attendees included Drew Phillips (Deputy Chairperson), Ashley Day, David McKelvie, Cameron Black, Garry Cranny and via MS Teams: John Pititto (Treasurer), Craig Banthorpe, Matt Skidmore, Andrew Burdett, Tej Panesar (Interim Associate Chair). Apologies were from Jason Comben (Chair). The meeting was chaired by Drew Phillips.

The financial accounts for FY 2024/25 were reviewed, finalised, and audited. The audit was conducted by Ganci Accountants & Auditors. No major changes were required by the auditor.

For this FY 2025/26 three quotes from suitable auditors will be sought due to Ganci Accountants & Auditors having audited CMPA accounts for more than three years.

An issue was raised regarding unsustainable monitoring for respirable crystalline silica being required by the EPA which will be investigate further by the Secretariat. Continuing with the silica theme, the Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane has a current project they are supporting with the Tradie Health Institute.

There are currently two research projects that are researching new technologies for silicosis screening and detection as well as possible treatment of silicosis. There is also a proposal for free silica health assessments for quarries with under 30 employees at the Alfred
Occupational Respiratory Clinic to undergo health monitoring when referred by WorkSafe Victoria. Further information will be provided as it becomes available.

There has been a number of work plan issues due to Resources Victoria Regulatory Operations being short staffed such site meetings being delayed. Groundwater is becoming an issue with more requests for monitoring. In other business Native Vegetation offsets, which have always been difficult, have become increasingly expansive in terms of cost and location of flora and fauna.

The meeting closed at 2:42pm.

Associate Committee Meeting

Associate Committee nominations were held in July. Since then, the following two long-serving members have resigned from their Committee positions:

  • Chris Prowse (CK Prowse and Associates), a member for 20 years, made significant contributions and his extensive knowledge will be greatly missed.
  • Mark Quinn (Lincom Group), a member for five years, also provided valuable support during his tenure.

Mark Thompson (Oil Vibrators) has stepped down as Associate Chairperson due to expanding work commitments. This was Mark’s second term as Chairperson, during which he provided outstanding support to the CMPA and its members.

Tej Panesar has now assumed the role of Interim Associate Committee Chairperson.

Two new Committee Members were elected:

  • Kath MacInnes (Darth Mouth Consulting)
  • David Glover (Chadwick Geotechnics)

On the 4th August 2025, the CMPA Associate Committee held its third meeting of the year via MS Teams.

Main topics of discussion included promotion of the CMPA and the extractive industry, membership and member advertising together with the 2025 Annuals Dinner.

It was put forward to create a classifieds section in the Sand & Stone magazine for Voting and Associate members to advertise their second-hand machinery and equipment. This will be put into place in the upcoming issues of Sand & Stone.

The Sand & Stone website is due to be updated, quotes have been obtained, and a final decision will be made by the Management Committee.
To help our members with Community Engagement the CMPA posted packs of out Quarries Building Communities pamphlets to both Voting and Associate members to assist in providing knowledge and information to the local communities on the purpose and who the industry contributes to the community.

Membership Renewals via the CMPA website were officially launched, with only a few minor issues to be resolved. We will be looking at having majority of renewals completed online over the next few years

The Annual Dinner preparations are almost complete. Past members and 25 year members have been invited to join the 25 year celebration of the CMPA.
