SUPPORTING THE COMMUNITY
At the last CMPA General Meeting a donation was made from the evenings takings to the Farmhand Appeal. To continue its efforts at supporting the wider community, the CMPA has chosen to support the Royal Victorian Institute of the Blind (RVIB). A raffle will be run at ACE 2003 and drawn at the General Meeting on the 14th of March. Below is some information about the work done by the Royal Victorian Institute for the Blind.
RVIB has been a leading provider of services to people who are blind or vision impaired for over 130 years, and is one of Victoria’s oldest and most respected charities. Established in 1866, as an asylum for children who were blind, RVIB has evolved into a dedicated and dynamic organisation with a commitment to providing client-focused services and support to ensure people who are blind or vision impaired have access to the same opportunities that sighted members of our community do.
Blindness and vision impairments are among the most common disabilities in our community, affecting over 100,000 adults and almost 1,000 children in Victoria alone. With the most advanced equipment, training and on-going support from RVIB, people who are blind or vision impaired are able to and lead full and independent lives.
All of RVIB’s core services are provided at no charge to ensure that all who seek assistance have equal access to our support. It costs more than 18.5 million dollars per annum to provide these comprehensive and high quality services and we are largely reliant on the generosity of our fellow Victorians. In today’s harsh economic environment gaining funding is highly competitive and RVIB is dependent on the continued generosity of sponsors and donors to ensure a viable future.
Our mission RVIB’s mission is to be the leading provider of services, resources and information to people who are blind or vision impaired in order to maximise their independence and quality of life.
